The Conjunto Music Program at Palo Alto College is offering scholarships to musicians who successfully pass an audition, enroll at PAC, and join the program’s performing ensemble.

Interested musicians, male and female, should be proficient as a vocalist, or in one or more of the following conjunto instruments: button accordion, bajo sexton, bass or drums. Proficiency in other instruments such as the guitar, saxophone, keyboards and percussion will also be considered.

Scholarships range from $500 to $1,000 per semester and will be awarded by the PAC Conjunto Music Program and the Valerio Longoria Memorial Scholarship in the Spring 2008 semester.

The Conjunto Music Program is the only one of its kind at the college and university level in the nation. Under the direction of Juan Tejeda, the program was established in 2002 and offers a wide range of services such as classes in Private accordion and Bajo Sexo, the Conjunto Notation and Recording Project, the development of a Tejano/Conjunto resource library, and an Artists-in-Residency Program. Acclaimed Conjunto musicians Eva Ybarra and Jesus “Chucho” Perales are scheduled to join Tejeda in teaching these courses at PAC.

Musicians interested in auditioning for the Conjunto Music Program and applying for a scholarship should call Tejeda at (210) 531-9505.
