ACCD Student Leadership Institute Hosting Annual Distinguished Speaker Series at Palo Alto College

Rosa Rosales, National LULAC President
The ACCD Student Leadership Institute will be hosting its annual Distinguished Speaker Series at Palo Alto College in the Student Center at 6:30pm on January 30, 2008. This event is open to the community and all of the ACCD students, faculty and staff are encouraged to attend. This years Distinguished Speaker will be Rosa Rosales, National LULAC President.
Rosa Rosales was born in San Antonio, Texas. Ms. Rosales earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Michigan with highest honors. For the past 28 years she has dedicated herself professionally to working with labor unions. She presently serves as the Director of the National Association of Public Employees (NAPE), of which she is the founder.
Her involvement with the League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) has been extensive, dating back to 1978 when she was elected Council President. Since then she has served in numerous positions including LULAC District Director, LULAC State Director, and National Vice-President for the Southwest. On July 1, 2006, Ms. Rosales became the National President of LULAC.
Rosa Rosales has been an icon for the Hispanic community, dedicating much of her energy to promoting issues on education, civil rights, employment, housing, health, immigration, and the rights for the elderly. For her efforts, she has been the recipient of numerous awards including the Community Achievement Award from the National American GI Forum; the La Feria de la Flores Award; the Cesar Chavez March for La Causa Award; El Premir Lider Nacional Hispana Award-Puerto Rico, the Anheuser-Busch Award for prominent Latina Women in Action Award, and the Image Outstanding Hispanic Woman Award.
She has been married to Dr. Rodolfo Rosales for 39 years. Together they have three sons; Rodolfo Jr., Miguel and Gabriel. download the event program here.
