San Antonio, TX (March 7, 2008) — On Tuesday, March 11, 2008, Northwest Vista College will welcome guest speaker and WNBA San Antonio Silver Stars Player Shanna Crossley. This special Women’s History Month event titled Inspiring Women: Women in Sports, will take place in the Huisache Hall Student Lounge, at 2:00 PM.
Ms. Crossley will discuss the experience of being female in a male dominated sport.
“Shanna Crossley is a strong and positive role model for women of all ages,” says NVC Women’s History Month Organizer, Nikki Stanford. “As a successful athlete in an extremely male dominated sport (basketball), Ms. Crossley has beaten the odds that many women face today."
Shanna Crossley plays Guard for the San Antonio Silver Stars and is in her second-season as a WNBA professional. She played college basketball for the University of Tennessee, where she majored in journalism and electronic media, and was selected in the second round (16th overall) of the 2006 WNBA Draft.
Ms. Crossley finished her collegiate career with 78 double digit scoring performances and was named to the All-Region Team at the 2006 NCAA Cleveland Regional. In addition, she was named to the All-SEC First Team selection in 2006 and ESPN the Magazine First Team Academic All-American.
On August 2, 2007, Shanna Crossley tied a Silver Stars franchise record for 3-pointers in a game with seven versus Phoenix. During the season, she scored in double-figures 11 times, including three 20-plus point performances, and finished 10th in the league in 3-point percentage.
A strong believer in community service, Shanna Crossley has volunteered with Race for the Cure, the Muscular Dystrophy Association and the Toyota Literacy Program.
