Alamo Community Colleges' Student Leadership Institute Engages at "Leaders in Action" Session

Forty students representing the Alamo Community Colleges Student Leadership Institute

Forty students representing the Alamo Community Colleges Student Leadership Institute traveled to Austin to participate in the Leaders in Action session Tuesday, March 4, 2008. Student leaders observed and experienced leadership by engaging in discussion with a diverse group of leaders that included Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB) Commissioner Raymund A. Paredes, THECB Deputy Commissioner for Business and Finance Dr. Arturo Alonzo, and  State Representative Rob Orr legislative aide Mr. Matthew Miller. Student leaders visited the state capitol, senate and house chambers, and observed an afternoon session of the Task Force Higher Education Incentive Funding committee.

The Student Leadership Institute (SLI) is a personal empowerment initiative under the Office of the District Director of Student and Community Program Development. This program provides intensive leadership training for students, concerning all sectors of business, media, non-profit, private, public and educational sectors. The SLI provides intensive overviews of issues that are important for effective leadership in any environment.
