SAN ANTONIO --- St. Philip’s College hosts a debate between two familiar national opponents on the topic of immigration reform as part of the SPC President’s Lecture Series.

Dan Stein and Enrique Morones debate each other from the stage at the Watson Fine Arts Theatre on the SPC-Martin Luther King Campus March 27, 2008, from 11 a.m. to noon (see sidebar).  Mr. Stein and Mr. Morones will debate on the topic U.S. Mexico Border & Beyond: A Debate on Immigration Reform. The debate is followed by a question and answer session with members of the audience of this event that is free and open to the community.

“Both are activists from different circles within the immigration and human rights community,” said SPC Lecture Series spokesperson Dr. Burton Crow. “They share debating as a common mode of expression,” Crow said.

The debaters will also visit with the students of SPC Sociology and Government classes who cover the debate as part of their class assignments, Crow said.

The St. Philip’s College President’s Lecture Series provides opportunities for the college and community to hear noted speakers’ perspectives on local and global issues once each fall, spring and winter. The forum is free and attracts students, faculty and staff from SPC in addition to members of the local community. For information on the program call Dr. Burton Crow at (210) 531-3290.
