Judson ISD Seniors Get a Peek at College Life

Judson ISD Seniors Get a Peak at College Life
Students from Judson ISD talk to college admissions counselor during
“College Connection Day” at Northeast Lakeview College

(San Antonio, TX – March 13, 2008)  Northeast Lakeview College hosted a “College Connection Day” for Judson ISD seniors on March 13th.  Participating students toured the Northeast Lakeview College campus and attended a college preparation workshop.  Additionally, the students participated in an on-campus Transfer Fair. Admissions representatives from local and regional universities were at NLC providing Judson ISD seniors with the opportunity to meet these representatives and obtain transfer requirements and eligibility information.  “College Connection Day” allowed JISD seniors to obtain important college information, including admission procedures, the financial aid process, and housing guidelines– all in one place.

Judson ISD seniors were invited to participate in “College Connection Day” as part of the College Connections: Making Dreams A Reality project, a partnership between Northeast Lakeview College and Judson ISD funded by a grant from the TG Public Benefit Program.  College Connections: Making Dreams a Reality is designed to streamline the transition from high school to college and to provide financial support for college.  Through this program, 147 need-based scholarships will be awarded to JISD 2008 seniors to attend Northeast Lakeview College in Fall 2008.

College Connections is an Alamo Community Colleges district-wide initiative modeled after the state and nationally-recognized college preparation course developed by Austin Community College. However, the College Connections: Making Dreams a Reality project is the first to award scholarships.“The transfer fair is an important part of College Connections,” says Dr. Eric Reno, Northeast Lakeview College president.  “It encourages students to continue their education, familiarizes them with the transfer process, and provides college preparation opportunities.”

Judson Education Foundation (JEF), an organization dedicated to generating revenues for student scholarships, will process the applications available at http://www.judsonisd.org/.
Interested Judson ISD students should apply online or contact their high school counselor. For more information on the application process contact e-mail
bmeade@judsonisd.org or call 210-945-5412.
