Chancellor Leslie To Speak at U.S. Chamber of Commerce Education Symposium

Dr. Bruce H. Leslie, Chancellor of The Alamo Colleges, will be one of the featured speakers at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce’s symposium on Thursday, May 22, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Westin Riverwalk Hotel downtown. Leslie will be one of three members on a panel addressing “San Antonio Today and Tomorrow.”

Also on the panel will be Elaine Mendoza, member of the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board and president and CEO of Conceptual MindWorks, Inc., and Dr. Robert Durón, superintendent of the San Antonio Independent School District. The event, “Driving the Debate: Education and San Antonio’s Work Force,” which will examine how companies can become more connected to education, is targeted to the business community.

Lydia Logan, executive director, Institute for a Competitive Workforce, U.S. Chamber of Commerce, will give the opening welcome. The breakfast keynote on “International Competitiveness and the U.S.” will be presented by Susan Sclafani, former assistant secretary of education for vocational and adult education, commissioner on the New Commission on the Skills of the American Workforce, and managing director, Chartwell Education Group, Inc. Other key topics to be addressed include “The Changing Workforce in a Global Economy” and “Latino Educational Equity and Three Essays on Best Practices in Latino Education in the United States.”

The Greater San Antonio, San Antonio Hispanic, North San Antonio and South San Antonio chambers of commerce are co-sponsoring the event.
