SAN ANTONIO (July 21, 2008) --- Whether it was on the baseball field or the basketball court, St. Philip’s College raked up the points with a double partnership this weekend with the San Antonio Silver Stars and the San Antonio Missions.

St. Philip’s College and The Alamo Colleges are prominently advertised during the games with rotating logo ads on the floor during Silver Stars games and a bright blue corner area billboard during the Missions games. Educators also meet with the fans in the AT&T Center and Nelson Wolff Stadium.

“The (rotating) signs at the AT& T center are money well spent,” said Judith Batson, a 36-year Alamo Community College District Accounts Payable employee who also works at the AT&T Center. “I first saw them (the signs) last week,” Batson said. “It was rotating and showing itself all the time, said Batson.”

Sports fans at both games met college personnel from Health Sciences, College Services (Student Financial Services), Educational Support Services and Enrollment Management.

At the AT&T Center, Yolanda Ward, Larry Ynman, Amber Logan and Thais Pratt represented the college during the Silver Spurs halftime program July 18. Ward is an SPC Advisor in Residence for Electronic Systems Technology. Ynman is an SPC Recruiter/Advisor. Logan is an SPC Radiology Technology Major, a graduate of the ACCD Student Leadership Institute, and a LULAC Scholarship recipient. Pratt, an SPC Bookkeeping and Accounting Major, is also a member of the SPC Campus Activity Board.

At the AT&T Center’s Atomic Spur, Ynmann helped fans sign SPC interest cards with John Martin, interim SPC Dean of Student Life, and Kevin Schantz, interim SPC Dean of Enrollment Management.

Roxana DeLeon, Angel Flores and Jennifer E. Tamayo helped Missions fans sign SPC interest cards. Tamayo is an SPC Student Financial Services Advisor. Flores is an SPC Surgical Technology student and DeLeon is an SPC Social Work student who also works for SPC Student Financial Services.

Dual-sport fans were supportive of the college’s efforts to boost enrollment, said John Martin.

“A guy came up to us (at the Silver Stars game) and said, ‘St. Philip’s College, where have I seen you recently… you were at the Missions game yesterday.’ The word is getting around,” Martin said.

People can experience St. Philip’s College at the Silver Stars home game at the AT&T Center on Sept. 13, or the Aug. 7 and Aug. 21 Missions home games at Nelson Wolff Stadium, times to be announced.
