Alamo Community Colleges, Kerrville ISD Celebrate Grand Opening of New College Center in Kerrville
The Greater Kerrville Alamo College Center celebrated its grand opening today with a ribbon cutting ceremony at the new facility, housed at Hal Peterson Middle School in Kerrville. This fall the center will begin offering college courses taught by Alamo Colleges faculty to residents in Kerrville and the surrounding area. It will be the only non-private higher educational facility in the area.
“I applaud the Board for its vision in recognizing The Alamo Colleges responsibility to provide educational opportunities to our regional community, as part of our mission to improve the educational attainment and economic development of our entire service area,” said Alamo Colleges’ Chancellor Dr. Bruce H. Leslie.
The Center was made possible through a partnership between The Alamo Colleges and the Kerrville Independent School District, supported by the Kerrville area community. The 7,200-square-foot facility will offer courses that lead to an associates degree or will count toward the first two years of a bachelor’s degree at any Texas university. The Center includes five classrooms, two computer labs and an administrative office/meeting room.
Eventually, the Center will move to its permanent location in the former Tivy Elementary Building locate at 1009 Barnett St., when its renovation is complete This location will offer 19,000 square feet of space, with ten classrooms, three offices and a 500-seat auditorium.
The center will provide access for residents in the greater Kerrville area to associate of arts, associate of science and associate of applied science degree courses, plus workforce, continuing education, technical training and dual credit courses offered by The Alamo Colleges. The center will also assist area residents and incumbent workers in attaining the education and training needed to meet to the workforce needs of the area.
The Alamo Colleges’ service area includes Atascosa, Bandera, Bexar, Comal, Guadalupe, Kendall, Kerr and Wilson counties. The Alamo Colleges —San Antonio College, St. Philip’s College, Palo Alto College, Northwest Vista College and Northeast Lakeview College—now serve more than 95,000 students each year.
