Fimmen Named New Director of International Programs at The Alamo Colleges

Carol P. Fimmen has been named director of International Programs at The Alamo Colleges by Chancellor Dr. Bruce H. Leslie. Prior to coming to ACC, she was the director of the Office of Global Education in the College of Business and Technology at Western Illinois University. Among her responsibilities were the development and implementation of international and cross-cultural programs to provide educational and professional opportunities for students and faculty. In addition, her responsibilities included the development of semester exchanges and summer programs for outbound and inbound students and assisting interested faculty with grant proposals.
“Ms. Fimmen is a valuable addition to The Alamo Colleges’ efforts to expand its role in international education,” said Vice Chancellor of Economic and Workforce Development Dr. Federico Zaragoza. “She will help us to build on the success of our internationally recognized programs: the professional certification training we recently provided for 50 Mexican technical college instructors; the language and culture program for 80 students from Japan; and our Cooperative Association of States for Scholarships (CASS) training program for teachers,” he added.
Fimmen also has served as a consultant to the Asian Development Bank Institute, the TIESWEB Organization in Paris, the American Council on Education, the Consortium for North American Higher Collaboration and the Western Interstate Commission for Higher Education. She was a founding board member of the International Leadership Association and has served in various capacities with the American Association of University Administrators, the Multicultural Commission of the National Academic Advising Association and the Leadership Development Board for the U.S. Department of Education TRIO programs.
Fimmen earned her bachelor’s degree in psychology from Southern Illinois University, her master’s in applied psychology from the University of Arkansas and has completed graduate course work in organizational behavior at the University of Iowa. She was recognized by the American Association of University Administrators with the Khaladjan International Award for Innovation in Higher Education. She received the White House Award for Initiative in Educational Excellence and Leadership, the Outstanding Cross-cultural Programming Award from the American College Student Personnel Association, and the Excellence for Creative Program Award from the National University Continuing Education Association and Outstanding Institutional Advising Program, American College Board (ACT) and the National Association of Academic Advising (NACADA).
The Alamo Colleges consist of five colleges serving the Bexar County area: Palo Alto College, St. Philip’s College, San Antonio College, Northeast Lakeview College and Northwest Vista College.
