Conjunto Music Scholarships Available At Palo Alto College

PAC Conjunto

The Conjunto Music Program at Palo Alto College is offering scholarships to musicians who successfully pass an audition, enroll at PAC, and join the program’s performing ensemble, Conjunto Palo Alto.

Interested musicians, male and female, should be proficient as a vocalist, or in one or more of the following conjunto instruments: button accordion, bajo sexto, bass or drums. Proficiency in other instruments such as the guitar, saxophone, keyboards and percussion will also be considered.

Scholarships range from $500 to $1,000 per semester and will be awarded by the PAC Conjunto Music Program and the Valerio Longoria Memorial Scholarship in the Fall 2009 semester which begins Aug. 24.

The Conjunto Music Program at PAC is the only one of its kind at the college and university level in the nation.

Under the direction of Juan Tejeda, the program was established in 2002 and offers a wide range of services such as classes in Private Accordion and Bajo Sexto, Conjunto Ensemble, as well as the Conjunto Notation and Recording Project, a Tejano/Conjunto resource library, and an Artists-in-Residency Program.

Acclaimed Conjunto musicians Eva Ybarra and Jesus “Chucho” Perales are Adjunct Faculty members and join Tejeda in teaching these courses at PAC.
