Justin Hill, Jim Tiemann, Jeff Jolly, and Jennifer Symrniotis of Grainger San Antonio; Jackie Van De Walle, Chair of the Alamo Community College District Foundation Board; Charles Conner, Alamo Community College District Foundation Board and Alamo Colleges Board of Trustees; Dr. Adena Williams Loston, President, St. Philip’s College; and Dr. Bruce Leslie, Chancellor, Alamo Colleges.
The Grainger Foundation, based on the recommendation of Jennifer Smyrniotis, manager of Grainger’s San Antonio facility, donated a gift in the amount of $20,000 to the Alamo Community College District Foundation of the Alamo Colleges. The gift will establish the Grainger Branch 705 Scholarship to provide financial assistance for students who are pursuing an Associate Degree in Air Conditioning and Heating, Electrical Trades, Diesel/Heavy Equipment, or Welding.
Alamo Colleges Chancellor Dr. Bruce Leslie, along with Jackie Van De Walle, Chair of the Alamo Community College District Foundation Board, and Pamela Tyler, Alamo Colleges Coordinator of Donor Relations, accepted the $20,000 gift from local Grainger representatives Jeff Jolly, Jennifer Symrniotis, Justin Hill, and Jim Tiemann. “We are enormously grateful for this partnership with Grainger to provide scholarships to help students complete their degree requirements in these technical programs at St. Philip’s College,” said Jackie Van De Walle. “The Grainger Branch 705 Scholarship will provide needed support to deserving students in San Antonio.”
“Grainger has a strong commitment to technical education across the country,” said Smyrniotis. “In San Antonio, we have a shortage of skilled labor and by providing this scholarship to students in need we can really make a positive impact in our community.”
A committee appointed by the Dean, Applied Science & Technology at St. Philip’s College will make the selections for the recipients of the scholarship. The scholarship recipient must have a minimum 2.5 grade point average with a minimum of 24 credit hours, enroll in a minimum of six credit hours in a fall, spring, or summer enrollment period at St. Philip’s College, and maintain a minimum 2.5 grade point average for continued eligibility.
