Chair Jackie Van De Walle, the family of Remedios “Remy” Walton, Randy Smith, Randolph-Brooks Federal Credit Union (RBFCU) president and CEO and Alamo Colleges Chancellor Dr. Bruce H. Leslie celebrate the donation of $9,000 by RBFCU to establish the Remedios “Remy” Walton Textbook Scholarship.
At the most recent Alamo Colleges Board meeting, Randolph-Brooks Federal Credit Union (RBFCU) presented a check for $9,000 to the Alamo Colleges to establish the Remedios “Remy” Walton Textbook Scholarship. The scholarship will be awarded to spouses of wounded service members who are attached to the Warrior Transition Battalion at Ft. Sam Houston and will pay for textbooks they will use while attending one of the Alamo Colleges.
Walton was a long-time employee of RBFCU whose husband was active-duty military, and who was deeply concerned with helping wounded warriors and their families. Walton’s husband, Roger, and their children Raschael, Rashaad and Raven attended the check presentation ceremony. Randy Smith, RBFCU president and CEO, presented the $9,000 check to Alamo Colleges Board Chairman Denver McClendon, Alamo Colleges Chancellor Dr. Bruce H. Leslie and Jackie Van De Walle, chair of the Alamo Community College District Foundation, Inc.
“The Randolph Brooks Federal Credit Union continues to be a valued partner of the Alamo Colleges in serving our community,” said Leslie. “We share their interest in supporting our military families and are pleased that they have chosen to make this generous donation in support of the spouses of wounded warriors recovering in San Antonio,” he added.
“Remy Walton was a lifelong advocate of education and she had a special connection with the military” said Smith. “We are proud to provide this scholarship in her honor because it will serve as a lasting legacy to her values and the work she did in helping others to improve their quality of life.”
According to Dr. Richard Drum, Alamo Colleges interim director of institutional advancement, the first of the Walton scholarships will be awarded this fall.
