Alamo Colleges Sign Partnership Agreement with Leading Chinese Technical College

The Alamo Colleges have broadened their horizons by embarking on an educational partnership with Tianjin Modern Vocational Technical College (TMVTC) in Tianjin City, China. Alamo Colleges Chan-cellor Dr. Bruce H. Leslie recently signed a partnership agreement with Dr. Li Guo-zhen, president of Tianjin College, via a live teleconference. Also participating in thefirst-of-its-kind event was Dr. Yang Guan Sheng, vice president of TMVTC, Li Jia-heng, director of the TMVTC international exchange office and Jorge Canavati and Rong Zeng of Port San Antonio.
The goals of the partnership are to develop and enrich the Alamo Colleges teaching and outreach programs and to strengthen and expand the mutual contacts between the two institutions. Next, the partners will implement agreements for specific activities, including student and faculty exchanges, an English as a Second Language program for students, faculty and other professionals from TMVTC, an advanced English as a Second Language program for English teachers at TMVTC, academic certificate and workforce development programs for students, faculty and other professionals at TMVTC and professional and training programs that involve external entities, such as working with the Port of San Antonio. All of this is consistent with the Alamo Colleges goal of expanding international opportunities for student and faculty and making the Alamo Colleges a leader in international education.
“We would like to thank President Li and the leadership of the TMVTC for their willingness to join us in this partnership, and we would also like to thank Jorge Canavati and Rong Zeng of Port San Antonio for their key roles in facilitating this partnership,” said Leslie. “We look forward to hosting President Li and his colleagues when they visit San Antonio and the Alamo Colleges,” he added.
“We look forward to cooperating with the Alamo Colleges in the fields of faculty training, student exchange and other areas,” said Li. “This agreement opens up the prospect of resource-sharing and joint development, and we wish this cooperative effort to be a complete success” he added.
“This agreement is an important document proving Alamo Colleges’ vision of globalization” said Canavati, vice president of business development at Port San Antonio. “This has a special importance since it pertains to China, an Important trading partner of Port San Antonio,” he added.
TMVTC is an advanced vocational college with 6,500 students enrolled. It offers 27 majors in applied liberal arts, applied science, applied engineering and art. It is located in the sixth largest city by population in China. TMVTC is one of seven vocational colleges that will join together to create the Haihe Educational Park in Tianjin, a sizable development that will serve 58,000 students.
