ACCD COLLEGES’ SUMMER ENROLLMENT AT ALL-TIME HIGH

The colleges of the Alamo Community College District (ACCD) achieved a record enrollment for the first summer session of 2002! Enrollment increased by 4,085 students, or 21.5%, over the first summer session of 2001. The total enrollment for Summer I 2002, including students enrolled for the spring Flex II session, is 23,062, compared to 18,977 for the same period in 2001.

"It’s truly wonderful to see more and more people in our community pursuing a college education, which is so critical not only to their future, but to the future of the entire community as well," said ACCD Chancellor Robert W. Ramsay. "We will continue to find new and better ways of making such an education available to everyone who desires it," he added.

Northwest Vista College, Palo Alto College, St. Philip’s College and San Antonio College, the colleges of the ACCD, enrolled more than 44,000 students for the spring 2002 semester, more than half of the college population in San Antonio. The ACCD colleges offer day, evening and weekend classes, plus Internet courses and telecourses. Several of the colleges also offer weekend degree options that allow students to earn a two-year associate’s degree on weekends.

The four ACCD colleges are conveniently located on the southside, northwest, north central and eastside of San Antonio. Classes are also offered at St. Philip’s College’s Southwest Campus, located at East Kelly AFB, at the Northeast Campus, located at Loop 1605 and IH 35N, and at off-campus locations, including businesses and local military bases. Tuition at the ACCD colleges is the lowest in Bexar County and a wealth of financial aid, including scholarships, loans and grants, is available for qualified students.

Phone and web registration for the colleges’ second summer session is now through July 8. On-campus registration is July 10-11. Classes begin July 12. For more information, call 733-2020.
