SAC's Douglas and Jones to Receive Honor
San Antonio College faculty Dr. Karen T. Douglas, Ed.D., Professor of Psychology, and Dr. Gloria Lang Jones, Ed.D., L.P.C., Associate Professor of Counseling, have been nominated for induction into the Consortium of Doctors, an organization of African American women with earned doctorates in any discipline or major. Douglas earned her doctorate at Texas A&M University, and Jones earned her doctorate at Texas A&M University-Kingsville.
The induction will be held at the "Bouquet of Doctors" ceremony on July 31 in Corpus Christi during the annual meeting of the Consortium of Doctors.
According to their mission statement, "The Consortium of Doctors, Ltd. are African American women who have completed doctorate degrees from nationally accredited institutions and have made contributions beyond the realm of the ordinary to enhance the lives of humankind."
Dr. Gloria Scott, Member Committee Chair, said, "The journey of African American women has been most impressive. From fewer than 5 women (African American) with doctorates at the time of the emancipation, to thousands at the beginning of the 21st Century, we have grown but still are not at parity."
She said the purpose of the consortium, which was founded by Dr. Abigail Jordan, is to share and dialogue, engage in self-development, and improve the lives of African Americans.
