ST. PHILIP’S STUDENT NAMED JUNIOR CHEF OF THE YEAR

A St. Philip’s College culinary arts major is the 20004 Texas Junior Chef of the Year, as selected by the Texas Chefs Association during its recent annual convention in Austin. Rani Duprey was selected from among six finalists who were each rated on their professionalism and dedication to the culinary arts.

"This is the first time this honor has been bestowed upon a San Antonio student chef," said Mary Kunz, chair of the St. Philip’s College Tourism, Hospitality and Culinary Arts Program. "It is noteworthy that Rani was a standout in such a fine group. They were all excellent candidates; four of them had received gold medals in culinary competitions in the past year."

Duprey also joined St. Philip’s College Chef Instructor Steve Martin in representing San Antonio on a four-person culinary team that took the silver medal in the Culinary Shootout Cold Foods Cooking Competition during the convention. "Rani and Steve did a great job representing our program and our city," Kunz said.
