Palo Alto Offers Courses in Child Care


The Continuing Education and Customized Training Department at Palo Alto College is offering three courses in child care to meet the needs of service providers.

The Child Development Associate program is tailored to teach students practical and necessary skills required to successfully become a certified associate in the child development field. The class is scheduled on Monday and Wednesday from 7-10 p.m. beginning on Sept. 22, 2003 through Feb. 18, 2004. Tuition is $495.25.

Upon completion of the program, students are eligible for certification by the Council for Early Childhood Professional Recognition after paying an assessment fee of $325 to the council.

A certification course for Child Development Associate Renewal will study the principles of normal child growth and development from conception to adolescence. Focus is on physical, cognitive, social, and emotional domains of development. The class is scheduled on Tuesday and Thursday from 7-10 p.m. beginning on Oct. 28 through Dec. 18. Tuition is $192.50. Assessment fees are included.

A course designed for Director Training for Child Care Centers develops the necessary skills required to be an effective administrator. Focus is on goal setting, problem solving, interpersonal communication, time management, stress management, scheduling, cost effectiveness, and principles of management and organizational behavior. The class is scheduled on Tuesday and Thursday from 7-10 p.m. beginning on Oct. 20 through Dec. 17. Tuition is $150.
