ALAMO COMMUNITY COLLEGES' FALL 2003 ENROLLMENT SETS NEW RECORD

The Alamo Community College District's fall 2003 enrollment of 48,726 is a record 9.7% increase over the district's fall 2002 enrollment of 44,425 and the highest enrollment ever for the fall semester. This is also the sixth straight year that the district's fall enrollment has increased.

Among the district's four colleges, Palo Alto College saw the largest increase in enrollment this fall, and achieved the largest enrollment recorded since the college opened 19 years ago. Northwest Vista College's enrollment this fall also increased significantly.

"I am absolutely delighted that the enrollment at all our colleges has increased this fall," said ACCD Chancellor J. Terence Kelly. "The numbers are significant and each college is finding creative ways to serve this new population. Our ability to expand educational programs and services should continue to enrich the San Antonio community," Kelly added.

College Fall '02 Enrollment Fall '03 Enrollment Enrollment Increase % Change
Palo Alto College 6,810 7,894 1,084 15.9%
Northwest Vista College 7,064 8,128 1,064 15.1%
St. Philip's College 9,185 10,073 888 9.7%
San Antonio College 21,366 22,631 1,265 5.9%
Total 44,425 48,726 4,301 9.7%

The district's enrollment growth is 5.4% ahead of the projected increase in fall enrollment for the ACCD colleges forecast by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board in the state's Closing the Gaps by 2015 higher education plan. The ACCD is now the second largest community college district in the state, behind only the Dallas Community College District.

Northwest Vista College, Palo Alto College, St. Philip's College and San Antonio College, the colleges of the ACCD, enroll more than half of the college population in San Antonio. The ACCD colleges offer day, evening and weekend classes, plus Internet courses and telecourses. Several of the colleges also offer weekend degree options that allow students to earn a two-year associate's degree on weekends.

The four ACCD colleges are conveniently located on the southside, northwest, north central and eastside of San Antonio. Classes are also offered at St. Philip's College's Southwest Campus, located at East Kelly AFB, at the Northeast Campus at 7990 Pat Booker Road and at off-campus locations, including local businesses and military bases. Tuition at the ACCD colleges is the lowest in Bexar County, and a wealth of financial aid, including scholarships, loans and grants, is available for qualified students.
