ST. PHILIP'S COLLEGE ANNOUNCES LINEUP OF ART EXHIBITS FOR 2003-2004


The St. Philip's College Department of Fine Arts will present a series of art exhibits throughout the 2003-2004 academic year showcasing the various visual art works of current and former students as well as local artists. All exhibits will be displayed in the Watson Fine Arts Center, Gallery 100, and will be available for viewing during regular business hours, Monday through Friday form 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., or by appointment. Following is a listing of scheduled art exhibits:

Between Serenity and Slop
This exhibit features the recent works by poet and musician Don Stewart. Stewart's vibrant paintings break down myths about race, religion, sex, government and relationships. Opening reception: October 7, 6 -8 p.m. Runs through Oct. 25.

SPC Student Armory Show
A showcase of all students enrolled in studio art courses. Opening reception: November 4, 6-8 p.m. Runs through Nov. 22.

Fine Arts Academy Fall Exhibition
A showcase that features student artwork created during the master class session for the 2003 fall semester. Runs through December.

Genesis
In celebration of Black History Month, the College will feature the works of Kina Crenshaw and Storm Nathanson. Both women are in the early stages of their careers as artists. Crenshaw is from San Antonio and a recent graduate of Southwest Texas State University. Nathanson is from Zimbabwe and currently enrolled at San Antonio College. Opening reception: February 3, 2004, 6-8 p.m. Runs through February 27, 2004

Watercolor Exhibition
In celebration of Women's History Month, the College will showcase the watercolor works of various women artists. Opening reception: March 2, 2004, 6-8 p.m. Runs through March 26, 2004

SPC Juried Student Art Exhibit
All students enrolled in studio art courses are allowed to participate in this art show. Works submitted will compete for various prizes and awards. Opening reception: April 6, 2004, 6-8 p.m. Runs through April 23, 2003

SPC Fine Arts Academy Spring Exhibition
This exhibition features the work of students created during the master class session for the 2004 spring semester. Runs through May 28, 2004

Contemporary Art Month at St. Philip's College
This exhibition features the works of recent graduates from the Visual Arts Department of St. Philip's College within the past year. St. Philip's College is the only school to feature the student work during Contemporary Art Month, which is the single most important month in the visual arts community for San Antonio. Opening reception: July 6, 2004, 6-8 p.m. Runs through July 31, 2004
