SAC to Host National Conference
on Developing Engineering Technology Curriculum
San Antonio College will host a meeting of the National Center for Advanced Technological Education at Middlesex County College (NJCATE) on November 10-13. The conference theme is "A Curriculum Model for Engineering Technology Education: Teaching what the Marketplace Needs."
Two workshops will be held: Workshop I (at the Valencia Hotel Riverwalk) on "The NJCATE Model: Developing an Integrated Technical Curriculum," and Workshop II (at San Antonio College) on "Authoring Learning Modules: Building Upon the NJCATE Curriculum Model."
"The conference will introduce faculty, teachers and administrators to an innovate curriculum for technical education," said Karen Ford, conference coordinator.
She said participants will learn how to develop an integrated curriculum (including linking technical and core competencies) based on the NJCATE model. In addition, there will be a discussion of accreditation issues and funding for curriculum reform and student recruitment and retention in technical programs.
NJCATE is one of 12 National Science Foundation-funded Centers for Advanced Technological Education in the country. It promotes renewal and improvement of technical education and provides professional development and technical assistance to the educational community.
