ALAMO COMMUNITY COLLEGE DISTRICT BOARD
NAMES DR. ERNEST A. MARTINEZ INTERIM CHANCELLOR
By unanimous vote, the Alamo Community College District Board of Trustees has appointed Dr. Ernest A. Martinez
as Interim Chancellor. Dr. Martinez will serve as Interim Chancellor until a new Chancellor
is appointed by the Board.
Dr. Gene Sprague, chairman of the ACCD Board, said, "We thank and support Dr. Martinez during this
important transition
period. I wish to emphasize that the ACCD Board strongly supports the choice of Dr. Martinez
as Interim Chancellor and that the Board has full confidence in his ability to carry on the leadership of
the Alamo Community College District."
Dr. Martinez has served ACCD as its Executive Vice Chancellor since 1995. Previous to joining ACCD,
Dr. Martinez served as Deputy Chancellor for the State University System of New York (SUNY), as
President/Superintendent of Cerritos Community College District in Norwalk, California, and as
President of Seattle Central Community College in the State of Washington.
The Board also took action to begin the process for selecting the next Chancellor of the ACCD.
At its next regular Board meeting, scheduled for November 19, the Board will issue a Request for
Proposals (RFP) for consultant services to assist in the search for the next Chancellor. A National
Search Committee will be formed and will be chaired by Ms. Luz Maria Prieto, ACCD District 1 Trustee.
The committee will have Board member representation and representatives from the community at large,
faculty, staff, the ACCD Foundation, administration, students and other members selected by the Board. A
total of four ACCD Board Trustees will serve on this committee: they are Ms. Luz Maria Prieto, Mr.
James A. Rindfuss, Mr. Marcelo S. Casillas, and Mr. Gary Beitzel.
In other action, the Board took steps to strengthen the Internal Auditor's position by having the Internal
Auditor report to both the Chancellor and the Board of Trustees.
