PALO ALTO COLLEGE BUILDS NEW FACILITY TO CREATE WORKFORCE PROGRAMS ON THE SOUTHSIDE

Palo Alto College will host a groundbreaking ceremony for its new Applied Sciences and Technology building on Nov. 20, 2003 at 10:00 a.m., 1400 West Villaret, San Antonio, Texas 78224.

"Palo Alto already provides skills development and training for our Southside workforce," said Dr. Ana M. "Cha" Guzman, president of Palo Alto College. "With the new facility, the college will offer more workforce development programs and truly become the economic engine of the Southside."

Palo Alto College will have a dual benefit from an Alamo Community College District revenue bond that will fund the construction of the new building and an expansion plan for the existing Student Center at a cost of approximately $5 million. Both construction plans are set to be completed by October 2004.

The anticipation of Toyota coming to the Southside of San Antonio and the increased student enrollment has magnified the need for the new facility on the college campus. With 7,740 students enrolled, the enrollment is at an all-time high. With the college’s student enrollment skyrocketing beyond previous years, the college is in a position to establish new workforce programs.

The new Applied Sciences and Technology building construction site is directly located behind the Ray Ellison Family Center, the child development center for the children of Palo Alto students. This new facility will provide more classroom space for students; it will consist of modular furniture and a bright vivid color scheme. The cutting edge technology labs will make it a building constructed for the 21st century student.

Palo Alto College is a fully accredited community college located on the Southside of San Antonio, and awards associate degrees, short-term certificates and offers non-credit continuing education classes. The college is recognized nationally for its high transfer rate. The campus is located at 1400 West Villaret Blvd. at I-410 South and Texas Hwy. 16.
