ACCD COLLEGES TO BREAK GROUND FOR NEW BUILDINGS IN RESPONSE TO RECORD ENROLLMENT GROWTH
With enrollment at all four ACCD colleges increasing at record levels, several construction projects are underway to provide ever-increasing numbers of students with top quality, state-of-the-art facilities. Record enrollment increases are expected to continue, since tuition at the colleges is not increasing next spring—as it will at many four-year public institutions. Groundbreakings for three of the construction projects will be held in the next week.
At 10:30 a.m. on Friday, November 14, Northwest Vista College will hold a groundbreaking ceremony for its new technology center that will provide additional space for the college’s continuing education and computer programs. The 29,500-square-foot facility, located east of the college’s current facilities complex, is scheduled to be completed by October 2004. It will include classrooms, computer labs, office space for the Corporate and Community Development department and public meeting space. In addition, 200 parking spaces and a new entrance to the campus will be added.
At San Antonio College at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, November 18, a groundbreaking will be held for SAC’s new Radio-TV-Film building. The 30,240-square-foot facility will be located on W. Courtland Place between N. Main Avenue and Howard Street and is scheduled to be completed in spring 2005. The building will house offices, audio and video editing rooms, a multi-track studio, a control room, an auditorium, two TV studios, video, news and computerized writing labs and classrooms. It will also include studio space for the college’s popular radio station, KSYM.
Palo Alto College will break ground for its new Applied Science and Technology building at 10 a.m. on Thursday, November 20. The new facility will be located directly behind the Ray Ellison Family Center, between the Ozuna Learning Resource Center on the west side of the campus and the main classroom buildings to the east. The 29,583-square-foot building, scheduled to be completed in October 2004, will provide additional classrooms and faculty offices, enlivened with a vivid color scheme and sleek modular furniture, as well as cutting-edge technology labs. It will be used for the college’s burgeoning occupational-technical programs, including workforce development efforts geared to the new Toyota facility on the southside.
St. Philip’s College Southwest Campus will break ground for a new 27,130-square-foot instructional center in spring 2004.
