ST. PHILIP'S COLLEGE TO HOLD AUDITIONS FOR 'PIPPIN' DEC. 3 AND 4
The St. Philip's College Department of Fine Arts will hold open auditions for its production of the musical 'Pippin,'
Dec. 3 and 4, at 5 p.m. in the Dance Room of the Watson Fine Arts Center (1801 Martin Luther King Drive). For
information, contact the St. Philip's College Department of Fine Arts at 531-3323.
'Pippin' is a play based loosely on the life of Charlemagne's eldest son, an idealist trying to find himself amid the
pomp of his fathers' court, among the ruin and desolation of the battlefield, as king of the Holy Roman Empire, and finally
as a common laborer on the estate of a rich widow named Catherine. Performances are scheduled for Feb. 13, 14, 15 and 16,
2003. Most rehearsals will be held Mondays through Fridays from 7 to 10 p.m.
The cast includes approximately 10 males and 10 females, including: a leading player, who runs the show; Pippin, who is
trying to find himself; Charles, the King and Pippin's father; Lewis, Pippin's warrior brother; Fastrada, the King's wife;
Berthe, Pippin's grandmother; Catherine, Pippin's final choice; Theo, Catherine's son; and a number of players.
Local dance director Gloria Lu will provide choreography. Musical direction will be provided by Gregory Gonzales, vocal
direction by Henry Washington, lighting and set design by William J. Stewart, and show direction by Charles R. Jeffries,
all of whom are members of the St. Philip's College faculty and staff. Producer is Dr. Elizabeth C. Ramirez, St. Philip's
College director of Fine Arts.
