ST. PHILIP'S COLLEGE-SOUTHWEST CAMPUS, SAISD PHOENIX HIGH SCHOOL PROGRAM TO HOLD STUDENT CAREER FAIR DEC. 5

St. Philip's College-Southwest Campus and the San Antonio Independent School District (SAISD) Phoenix High School Program will host a career fair Dec. 5, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the campus located at 800 Quintana Road in Building 3020.

The Phoenix Career Fair will enable students in the program to market themselves to employers from some of San Antonio's growing industries and, in turn, will allow those employers to recruit prospective employees from among the student ranks. The fair, a collaboration of St. Philip's and the Texas Workforce Centers, will showcase 'student career presentations' as a result of a semester filled with career research projects, job shadowing, resume writing, and other related career preparation activities. The fair also will feature local employers such as Lockheed Martin, Chromolly, Archimedia, and many other companies that will be participating and accepting resumes.

St. Philip's College-Southwest Campus Repair & Manufacturing Department, Allied Construction Department, and Multi-Modal Department will also feature their educational and training programs. For more information, contact Melissa Nitu, Phoenix Program instructor, at 921-4622, or James Wright, School-to-Careers coordinator-St. Philip's College-Southwest Campus, at 921-4654.

The Phoenix Program at St. Philip's College Southwest Campus began as a pilot program more than four years ago, and has evolved into what is now officially known as the CASAS Phoenix Adelante Academy of SAISD. Students, participating in the Phoenix Program, can earn college credit while still in high school and use that credit in a 2- or 4- year college or university program. Students attend all classes on the St. Philip's College-Southwest Campus and follow the SAISD academic calendar and days.

The Phoenix High School program of study is specifically designed to give students the academic and technical skills required for the 21st Century workforce. While in the program, students create and build real-world hands-on projects, explore career opportunities and participate in job shadowing during their senior year. Students can learn to be technicians or entrepreneurs in a real-world environment that stimulates work site problem-solving and creative thinking. The program also connects students with science, math, English, government, and economics to complete their high school diploma while pursuing their career ambitions.

St. Philip's College, one of the Alamo Community Colleges serving the greater Bexar County region, is a comprehensive community college designated as both a Historically Black College and a Hispanic Serving Institution.
