Palo Alto College to Recognize Students at Scholarship Ceremony

Family and friends will join Palo Alto College officials to recognize students at a Scholarship Ceremony at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 4, in the Gymnasium. The event is open to the public.

Palo Alto College presented 652 students scholarships this fall. The college awards over $500,000 in scholarships each year.

Keynote speakers will be community philanthropists Jean Migliorino and Philip Piccione. Both Migliorino and Piccione are retired from the U.S. Air Force, Migliorino as a colonel and Piccione as a lieutenant colonel.

After traveling around the world, the couple decided to make San Antonio their permanent residence. Since then, they have made charitable contributions in San Antonio as well as in their home states of Pennsylvania and Louisiana.

Their charitable efforts included planned giving, endowment building and smaller gifts. Locally, Migliorino and Piccione have established endowments with the Alamo Community College District (ACCD), St. Mary’s University, the University of the Incarnate Word, Our Lady of the Lake University and the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio.

Their generous contributions provide permanent sources of funding for student scholarships and faculty development. Migliorino and Piccione’s donation to the ACCD helped establish the ACORN Scholarship, which is maintained by the ACCD Foundation and is available to students attending any of the four ACCD colleges who are majoring in high demand occupational fields where employment is relatively assured.

For information about the ceremony, call 921-5320. To learn more about planned giving, call the Institutional Advancement Department at 208-8105.
