PALO ALTO COLLEGE OFFERS ELECTRO-MECHANICAL TECHNOLOGY DEGREE PROGRAM

Palo Alto College is offering the degree program in Electro-Mechanical Technology. The program is expanding its scope to include new courses in industrial automation, industrial mechanic, electrical technical, and automation control.

Electro-mechanical Technology is the combination of electrical, electronic and mechanical devices from new automated systems in manufacturing, product testing, electronic instrumentation and computer-controlled processes. These new processes have blurred the traditional electronic and mechanical lines. There is an ever increasing need for multi-skilled maintenance control technicians who are trained in areas such as electronics, electrical control systems, servo and process control, hydraulics/pneumatics, basic mechanical skills and computer literacy.

The Associate in Applied Science degree at Palo Alto College emphasizes the electrical/electronic aspect, the mechanical aspect, and the robotic/automation aspect of industrial and manufacturing processes.

“The student will have a much broader base of knowledge. Once they attain it, they go later for the specialty they desire,” said Frank Quijano, lead instructor of manufacturing technology.

Potential occupations are: industrial automation technician, industrial maintenance technician, robotics technician, field service technician, engineering technician, fluid power technician, industrial service engineer, Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) technician/programmer, and electro-mechanical technician.

The new courses will be offered in the new Applied Science and Technology Training Center scheduled to open its doors January 10.
Classes are offered during the day and evening. To register on-line visit www.accd.edu/pac or call 208-8002 to request a schedule.
