PALO ALTO COLLEGE TEAMS PLACE AT REGIONAL ETHICS BOWL

From a field of 14 academic teams, Palo Alto College captured fourth and fifth place at the 7th Annual Regional Ethics Bowl held at St. Mary’s University on Saturday, Nov. 13.

One of two community colleges and the only one to place in the competition, Palo Alto College competed against four-year university teams from South Texas. Palo Alto’s winning ethics teams included in fourth place Ali Watson, Melissa Tellez and Travis Bowles, and in fifth place James Massey, Irene De Jesus, Delton Childs and Vanessa Hernandez.

Dr. John Hernandez, team coach, said, “The Ethics Bowl gives students the opportunity to hone their skills of critical thinking and ethical insight. Altogether, there were 14 teams from the South Central Texas region including: Southern Methodist University, Texas Lutheran University, and institutions from the University of Texas and Texas A&M systems.”

“The results give concrete expression to what I have always known, intuitively, our students are as sharp as any others and they can achieve the highest levels of academic success, if given the opportunity and support to do so,” said Hernandez.

Palo Alto College is a fully accredited community college located on the Southside, and awards associate degrees, short-term certificates and offers non-credit continuing education classes. The college is recognized nationally for its high transfer rate. The campus is located at 1400 W. Villaret Blvd. at I-410 South and Texas Hwy. 16.
