SAN ANTONIO COLLEGE AND TEXAS STATE UNIVERSITY-SAN MARCOS SIGN TRANSFER AGREEMENT

Today San Antonio College and Texas State University-San Marcos officials announced an articulation agreement to help facilitate the transfer of students with Arts & Sciences majors. The pact amends and updates an agreement signed between the two institutions in 1994.

"We are excited about this renewed partnership, which will make it easier for San Antonio College students to continue their studies at Texas State and earn their bachelor's degree," said Dr. Robert E. Zeigler, President of San Antonio College.

"For the sake of the future economy of the state, as well as for the quality of life of our citizens, we need to encourage as many Texans as possible to get bachelor's degrees," said Dr. Denise M. Trauth, President of Texas State. "Our goal with these transfer guides is to smooth the transition from two-year college to four-year college to help students earn those degrees."

To provide students with a smooth transition from San Antonio College to Texas State, the Texas State College of Liberal Arts and the SAC Division of Arts & Sciences have established 34 Transfer Planning Guides.

These guides will assist students working toward Bachelor's degrees in such fields as Anthropology, English, Geography, History, International Studies, Modern Languages, Philosophy, Political Science, Psychology, Sociology, Accounting, Computer Information Systems, Economics, Finance, Management, Marketing, and Applied Arts and Sciences.

San Antonio College, a college of the Alamo Community College District, enrolls approximately 23,000 credit students each semester and 15,000 continuing education students annually. It is the largest single-campus community college in Texas. Texas State is among the top college choices of SAC students in transferring credits to complete their undergraduate studies, with 111 students transferring for the Fall 2004 Semester.

Texas State is a doctoral-granting university located in the Austin-San Antonio corridor. It is the largest campus in the Texas State University System and the 6th largest in the state. Texas State enrolls 26,827 students who choose from 114 undergraduate, 81 masters and six Ph.D. graduate degree programs.
