NORTHWEST VISTA COLLEGE AWARDED COLLEGE READING AND LEARNING ASSOCIATION (CRLA) CERTIFICATION FOR MATH TUTORING PROGRAM
The College Reading and Learning Association (CRLA) recently certified the math tutoring program at Northwest Vista College. The math tutoring program ensures that tutors not only know the material, but have learned different strategies of presentation.
“We want our tutors to be as knowledgeable as our instructors with the insight of an experienced teacher,” remarked Math Advocate Heidi Lopez. “After much research and discussion about what we wanted to see happen with our tutors and our developmental program, we created a tutoring model that has turned out to be beneficial for our students.”
“Going through the training was an incredible learning experience for everyone,” said Anna Harwin, Activity One Director of Title V. “Our program deals not just with the knowledge tutors have, but provides ways to support student learning.”
CRLA evaluators commended NVC’s math tutoring program for being an “excellent program.”
