| The
April 2007 Student of the Month, Shandra Lott,
is a wife, mother of three, and full-time
student at Northwest Vista College. A dedicated
scholar, Shandra has accumulated 74 semester
hours at NVC while maintaining a 3.5 GPA or
higher. She is also on the National Dean’s
List, Honor Roll, President’s Honor
Roll, and is a member of Phi Theta Kappa.
In
addition to her college work, Shandra is a
leader on the NVC campus. She is a second
year member of the Student Leadership Institute,
where she served as CEO of one of the program’s
major events that hosted over 100 participants.
Shandra was responsible for coordinating the
entire event and received excellent feedback
from all involved. Shandra has also exhibited
leadership qualities and service to the Alamo
Community Colleges through her participation
in the Strategic Planning Retreat, Disciplinary
Action Committee, and the District Media Presentation.
Shandra
not only strives to reach her personal goals,
but also to help out in the community as evidenced
through her recent “Neighbor of the
Year Award.” Shandra also volunteers
with Habitat for Humanity, mentors at Cody
Elementary School, and volunteered at Kelly
AFB during relief efforts following Hurricane
Katrina.
Northwest
Vista College Instructor, Marisa Salazar,
describes Shandra as a student who, “holds
herself to a very high standard and strives
to reach her goals.” Soon meeting one
major goal, Shandra will receive an Associate’s
Degree in Applied Science in May 2007. All
in all, her continued commitment to her education,
community, and family make Shandra a unique
individual with an extraordinary future ahead
of her.
