Jonathan Gayechuway
Jonathan Gayechuway - Brief Biography

Mr. Jonathan Gayechuway, affectionately known as ‘Johnny’ by his classmates, has been with the Alamo Community College District for two semesters. He is presently a pre-Nursing student in the Science Department at Northwest Vista College. Johnny already holds a degree in Engineering. He has changed his career direction to Nursing because he wants to serve his fellow man in a way that will bring direct comfort, healing, and care.

Today, Johnny has a story to tell - one that teaches. Through his journey, he has overcome difficult struggles by facing them with strength and the resolve to survive and succeed.

A unique aspect of Johnny’s life is that, in his youth, he survived the genocide taking place in the country of his birth, Liberia. Against all odds, he eluded the violence in Liberia and escaped death, fleeing to refugee camps in Ghana. In the refugee camps, Johnny rose up to become a leader to fellow refugees, giving direction and encouragement to those around him. He continues to provide support for his displaced siblings.

Johnny proudly serves his adopted country, the USA, as a member of the US Army. He valiantly served with the Army during a tour of duty in Iraq, and he currently serves full-time in San Antonio.

Johnny is an excellent student by all measures. He is dedicated to excellence in his educational achievements and performance, and he is always present in class. In fact, he always arrives early to class, and is ready to support all his fellow classmates in a considerate manner. It is impressive to see how Johnny quickly and readily gives to, guides, and supports his classmates.

One attribute that stands out and makes Johnny exceptional is that he has a very high pro-social behavior. He easily shares, helps and cooperates within the classroom community. Johnny has a special ability to give quick and decisive support in the classroom, which is welcomed and appreciated by his fellow classmates. He reflects an altruistic spirit in that he offers help to others with no expectation of reward.

Johnny is being recognized for his outstanding academic achievement, collaboration, civic engagement, and how he demonstrates ethical leadership. Besides being a full-time student, he also works full-time in the medical field and is a dedicated husband and parent. His civic engagements include serving weekly in his church, and also assisting with community relief efforts.

Johnny is appreciative of life. His strengths lie in positive thinking and solution making.
