Karisa Hernandez - Brief Biography
Ms. Karisa Hernandez is pursuing an Associate of Science in Accounting and maintains a 3.7 grade point average. Her academic plans are to transfer to UTSA where she will pursue a Bachelor of Business Administration Degree in Management with a concentration in Small Business and Entrepreneurship. She hopes to someday own her own business.
Karisa serves as the President of the Student Government Association, and is a member of Phi Theta Kappa, an honors organization for two-year colleges. She is also a graduate of the Student Leadership Institute, Tier I & Tier II. She has been on the President’s Honors List and a recipient of several scholarships including the Student Leadership Scholarship and the Harlandale Initiative Scholarship.
Karisa has also distinguished herself through service activities on and off-campus. At Palo Alto she is active in the Go Green! and Earth Club. During the summer she worked with the campus recruiters in hosting the new student orientation and sat on a student panel where she discussed college attendance from a student’s perspective. She also presented at the Young Leader’s Conference where she spoke to high school juniors and seniors. When she is not on campus or leading students she works at the family business performing bookkeeping and payroll duties.
Assistant Professor of Business, Veronica Rosas-Tatum said, “Karisa interacts well with faculty, staff and students. She handles herself professionally when dealing with others and she is always willing to lend a hand. She is an outstanding role model, a dedicated student, and a capable leader who is civic-minded and responsible.”
Karisa is the daughter of Oscar and Norma Hernandez. She is a middle child in a family of five, Oscar Jr., Michael, Monica, and Jonathan.
