Zaragoza Vice Chancellor for Professional, Technical and Workforce Education

Goal I. Access to Higher Education
Strategic Plan Key Performance Indicator (KPI) space utilization data collection is continuing.

Strategic Plan Balanced Scorecard items focusing on the CIP impacts data collection is continuing.

Bid No. 06M – 113, District Wide Roof Repairs – Work on replacing the Houston Street Building roof is complete.

Goal IV. Capacity to Serve
The HR Department assisted the principal auditor with questions regarding screens used in HRS – examples: resignations, retirements, transfer, terminations (Event Start/Stop Codes).
The HR-led KPI meetings this week included:
New Hires Committee
Performance Appraisal Metrics Committee
Terminations Committee
Hiring Philosophy Committee
FMLA/WC Committee
Peer Benefits Comparability Committee
Leave Process Committee

 

Goal I. Access to Higher Education
The Department of Institutional Advancement and ACCD Foundation submitted a proposal to the San Antonio Livestock Exposition, Inc. requesting a renewed $80,000 award for scholarships.

The Department of Student & Community Program Development - Community Education Centers (CECs) provided a total of 3,109 (financial aid, admissions, assessment, information, etc.) to 1,353 unduplicated individuals and prospective students for the month of February.

The Department of Student & Community Program Development, Student Leadership Institute students from NVC, SAC, PAC, and SPC presented sessions at the Young Heroes conference (Your College Journey Begins Today) on Saturday, February 24 from 9-3 at the SPC campus. A total of 50 ACCD students, 7 staff and faculty members, and 35 Young Heroes attended the event.

The Department of International Programs met with approximately 30 representatives from the College (s) advising, registrars, deans, academic and Samanthia Spence, director for the International Center at North Lake College and Emmet Pugh, director, Office of International Student Services at the Houston Community College Systems, to strategize on ideas to increase ACCD international student recruitment.

Goal II. Student Success
The Department of Institutional Advancement and the ACCD Foundation have completed the launch of a $200,000 mini-campaign to create an endowed fund to support the Ozuna Children’s Library program at Palo Alto College.
The Department of Athletics and Natatorium Services staff provided swim survival skills, snorkeling and swimming training to 75 students from South San H.S. and 5 from West Campus.

Goal III. Workforce Development
Dr. Federico Zaragoza, participated in the National Science Foundation – Automotive Academy TPS (Toyota Production Systems) planning meeting in Georgetown Kentucky. Dr. Zaragoza is one of four (4) NSF co-Investigators working on a national curriculum for the Auto industry. Participating auto companies include GM, Chrysler, UAW, Ford, Toyota, Honda, BMW, CAM-CAR – Mercedes, and Kia.

The ACCD Board of Trustees approved the City of San Antonio and ACCD FY 2007-08 Memorandum of Agreement. The MOA authorizes $1,351,510 to provide training and workforce related services to 4,481 students.The City Council is scheduled to act on the inter-local agreement on March 15, 2007.

The Department of Professional, Technical and Workforce Education and SOAR conducted a planning session on TRACDat with all of the College’s Continuing Education programs.

Goal IV. Capacity to Serve
Department of Student and Community Program Development- SOAR director and coordinator of measurement and evaluation are attending the Texas Association of Institutional Research (TAIR) Conference at South Padre Island.

Goal V. Organizational Communications
The Department of Governmental and Public Relations developed Women’s History Month events, arranged an Express-News interview with Margie Quintanilla of the Lowe-Woods Education Center and submitted two press releases on: “Alamo Community Colleges Rank #1 in Internet Class Enrollment”, and “Standard & Poor’s Increases the Alamo Community Colleges Bond Rating”.

The Department of Governmental and Public Relations created a web page that links to the Texas Common Application, which will be active for the Alamo Community Colleges on March 5th.

The Department of Governmental and Public Relations posted a photo gallery for “Texas Community College Student Day” in Austin.

Mr. Leo Zuniga accompanied Dr. Bruce Leslie and ACCD Trustees to Washington D.C. to discuss legislative support for ACCD projects.

The Department of Institutional Advancement held the ACCD Foundation Board Retreat on February 24th to discuss the Foundation’s strategic positioning for a future major gifts/capital campaign. Re-contacted Jim Lanier at AGB to facilitate training for the ACCD Foundation Board (and possibly the ACCD Board of Trustees) on May 18 and 19, 2007.

Dr. Bruce Leslie and Dr. Federico Zaragoza met with the Floresville ISD leadership team to discuss the framework for a Memorandum of Agreement and operational budget for the proposed Floresville - Career Technology Center modeled after the CTTC Workforce Specialty Campus in New Braunfels. This item will be featured as a program highlight at the March ACCD Board of Trustees meeting.
