Alamo Community Colleges Recognized for Workforce Programs

The Alamo Community Colleges received national recognition for its workforce development programs. The MPR Associates Inc, under a Lumina Foundation grant, conducted a national study of community college workforce investment programs. The study, Working It Out: Community Colleges and the Workforce Investment Act, recognized the ACCD for leadership and innovative workforce (WIA) solutions. The methodology for selecting the colleges included a national peer nomination process. ACCD was the only Texas College selected and was cited in various sections. The MPR is a “mainstream” workforce development organization that brings a degree of objectivity and credibility to the nomination and selection process. This will give us some bragging rights! We join an elite group of community colleges who have a strong tradition in the workforce development area such as Cuyahoga, Pina, Portland, Northern Virginia, Denver, Fox Valley, Tacoma, and Maccomb Community Colleges.

SAC Student Newspaper Selected As Finalist

The Ranger Online was one of only four two-year colleges selected as a 2007 Pacemaker Finalist by the Associated Collegiate Press. The Pacemaker awards will be presented in October in Washington, D.C. The finalists were selected based on design, ease of navigation, writing and editing, graphics and interactivity. The Ranger Online was the only two-year college to win the Pacemaker in 2005; the eight other winners were from colleges and universities. The Ranger has won 10 Pacemaker awards since 1976 and is in the Associate Collegiate Press Hall of Fame.
