Goal
III. Workforce Development
The Alamo Community College District received national recognition for its workforce development programs. The MPR Associates Inc, under a Lumina Foundation grant, conducted a national study of community college workforce investment programs. The study, Working It Out: Community Colleges and the Workforce Investment Act, recognized the ACCD for leadership and innovative workforce (WIA) solutions. The methodology for selecting the colleges included a national peer nomination process. ACCD was the only Texas College selected and was cited in various sections. The MPR is a “mainstream” workforce development organization that brings a degree of objectivity and credibility to the nomination and selection process. This will give us some bragging rights! ACCD joins an elite group of community colleges who have a strong tradition in the workforce development area such as Cuyahoga, Pina, Portland, Northern Virginia, Denver, Fox Valley, Tacoma, and Maccomb Community Colleges.
he Kerrville ISD and ACCD are working toward the establishment of a new Early College and Workforce Specialty Campus. Leadership teams from ACCD headed by Chancellor Leslie and Superintendent Dan Troxell will meet on June 15, 2007 to formalize agreements. An existing building has been identified; startup technical dual credit. Kerrville would like to begin the Fall semester with approximately 152 dual credit students.
Goal IV. Capacity To Serve
Information Technologies hosted the Twelfth Annual Texas Connection Consortium conference on May 23-24, 2007 in San Antonio. The TCC is a consortium of 37 Texas colleges and universities who use one of the Sungard SCT Higher Education products. There were 242 persons registered from thirty Texas institutions. Over twenty of the institutions are in some phase of migrating to Banner. Dr. Charles Burmeister is Chairman of the TCC Advisory Board.
The Department of Governmental and Public Relations reported on state appropriation of $67,846,696 for each of the next two years, an increase of $2.4 million a year; new campus funding of $732,791 for 2008 and $555,822 for 2009; and $500,000 for the Student Success Pathway pilot study. This study will provide educators with information to identify gaps in curriculum and develop successful learning methodologies to assist students in their transition from high school to college or workforce success. This study will establish a model that can be expanded statewide.
