| Goal IV. Capacity to Serve
Elizabeth Alvarado of Acquisitions, in conjunction with Gina Lopez of Materiel Management and Margaret Pena of Fiscal Affairs conducted a campus visit to Northwest Vista College on May 30. The agenda covered a wide variety of topics relative to purchasing, inventory control, direct pays and employee reimbursements. Fifteen Banner users from NVC attended the meeting. A special thank you to Lolly Peek from NVC for her assistance in organizing this event.
The Certificate of Occupancy for the Modular Building at SAC has been issued. Facilities personnel are moving into the building. This building provides restroom facilities for the students and addresses ADA compliance.
Plats for Northeast Lakeview College, Palo Alto College, St. Philip’s College and San Antonio College are in the final stages of approval by the City of Live Oak, City of Universal City, and the City of San Antonio. Approval of these plats is key to the issuance of Capital Improvement Program building permits.
In Human Resources:
• The Training Unit distributed pre-survey information to 180 survey participants
• The Records and Information Systems Unit collected and completed data for the Workforce Planning Survey and also finalized the Leadership Survey

The Benefits Unit conducted new hire orientation for 4 new employees
•
The Employment Unit developed, coordinated and communicated the Position Effectiveness Program (PEP) process in preparation for system-wide implementation on May 29.

The Compensation Unit met with Fiscal Affairs on the FY 07-08 Budget; met on May 29 with ACCD Administrators, Chancellor and Vice Chancellors on the proposed compensation maintenance plan

The Compensation Department and HR Director met with all college presidents to review all jobs common between campuses in continuation with the Compensation Study.
Information Technologies converted from the Netscape Messaging Server to Microsoft Exchange server in support of the new email implementation. As part of this project, they installed Microsoft Outlook Web Access (MOWA) client on the PALS ACCD Portal.
In the past month, IT developed nine new report programs for the colleges, Human Resources and Finance, as well as, modifications to eight report programs for Financial Aid and Finance.
As of June 1st, IT has received 21,895 applications for the five colleges for the summer and fall term through the Texas Common Application program and College Connections.

Goal I. Access To Higher Education
During May, the Department of Student and Community Program Development Community Education Centers (CECs) provided a total of 3,671 services (financial aid, admissions, assessment, information, etc.) to 1,710 unduplicated individuals and prospective students. Of these students, 1,192 had no prior contact with the Centers. The CEC also continues to participate in the “College Connections” initiative and related activities. CEC staff provided Financial Aid Processing, and/or Accuplacer Testing to students at Clark, Edison, Holmes, Jay, Jefferson, Kennedy High Schools, and Southwest Prepatory School.
The Department of Student Financial Services staff continues to monitor the Federal Pell and ACG reports that are required by Department of Education and prepared summer 2007 award reports for the all the colleges and provided that data to the financial aid directors.
The Department of International Program’s CASS (Central American States for Scholarship) program officer Sandra O'Reilly of Georgetown University visited the ACCD CASS program, interviewing students and staff regarding strategies for implementing educational improvements for their home communities. Accompanying her was Dr. Rochelle Mayer, also of Georgetown, who is conducting an assessment of best practices in the CASS education programs.
The Department of Institutional Advancement submitted the proposal to the Motorola Foundation to seek funding for the Ozuna Children’s Library Summer Program at PAC.
Goal II. Student Success
The Department of Institutional Advancement is working on the final steps of the Process Improvement Plan that will effectively ensure College & District Offices of Student Financial Services or designated Scholarship Offices assume complete responsibility for administering scholarships are being taken (a major issue has been the process for moving funds from the ACCD Foundation to the Student Financial Services accounts, and access to BANNER scholarship gift accounts by Student Financial Services personnel that will empower them to post awards to student accounts and report back to the Office of Institutional Advancement when awards have been made, to whom, by scholarship. This latter issue is critical for info to be provided back to the donor and has not been easily secured.
Goal III. Workforce Development
Dr. Leslie, Carolyn Kelley & Roland DuBay had lunch with Mr. Chris Carruth, Vice President of SKANSKA in the Texas southern region to develop a stronger relationship, and build potential workforce development support.
The Department of Professional, Technical and Workforce Education and the Automotive Manufacturing Technical and Education Consortia (AMTEC) conducted a national symposium identifying workforce solutions and labor shortages projected for automotive manufacturers. Approximately 55 persons representing fourteen community colleges and GM, UAW, Toyota, and Honda attended. The symposium featured presentations by Ms. Phyllis Eisner, Vice President of the National Association of Manufactures – Dream it, Do it Programs; Mr. Bill Rayl, Jackson Area, Manufacturers Association – K-16 Pipeline Industry Driven Workforce; and, Dr. Federico Zaragoza, Mr. Joe Wilson, and Mr. Rafael Brisita headed the discussions on the ACCD Early College Career Academies for Aviation, Manufacturing and the Information Technology Sectors.
The Department of Professional, Technical and Workforce Education reviewed a new application proposal from San Antonio College for the Land Surveying Technology program. LMI data for the Alamo Community Colleges service region indicates a 21% projection in the number of new and replacement jobs needed during the next four years. The proposal will be presented at the next Executive Committee meeting on June 11.
Goal IV. Capacity to Serve
The SOAR team continues to refine the “Alamo Community Colleges’ Performance Measurement Management” report which provides data on the Chancellor’s Key Performance Priorities related to recruitment (student recruitment/capacity model), retention and completion (with alignment to Achieving the Dream targets), metrics, and remediation levels of First-Time-in-College students.
The Department of Athletics and Natatorium Services hosted the Palo Alto Swim Meet, June 1&2, 2007. 303 swimmers from South Texas and Houston participated.
Goal V. Organizational Communication
The Department of Governmental and Public Relations Phone Bank made 15,000 calls to students who had registered for Summer I but had not paid their tuition and fees; promoted Summer I registration with 90 radio spots from May 30-June 4; produced print ads to run in the Express-News and La Prensa from May 30-June 3; announcements on ACCD’s main web site and with two e-mails to all Spring ACCD students encouraging summer I registration. Summer I enrollment is expected to exceed 25,000 students. The department also produced print ads announcing 40 Alamo Community Colleges’ NISOD winners that ran in the Express-News and La Prensa.
