Goal I. Access to Higher Education
The Department of Institutional Advancement completed a new Gift Agreement with the San Antonio – Medical Center Rotary Club for a $5,000 gift for nursing scholarships and submitted a proposal to the San Antonio Area Foundation for a TRIAD grant that would give SAC resources to assist wounded veterans returning home from Iraq and Afghanistan. This is a special program being offered through the San Antonio Area Foundation. We are requesting $230,625 for Year 1 and $237,975 for Year 2. Two-thirds of the grant funds (if awarded) would pay for personnel costs. We should hear back before the Fall Semester.
The Department of International Programs met with Domingo Castillo Moncada, Director of the Escuela de Ciencias de la Educación (a graduate school for educators in Monterrey, Mexico), on Thursday, June 7. The purpose of the visit was to explore the possibility of educational exchanges between our two institutions.
Goal
III. Workforce Development
The Westside Education and Training Center (WETC) has enrolled 998 students in credit and non-credit programs since it opened in early fall. There are 160 credit students enrolled in Summer courses. It is anticipated that a second floor addition will be open to accommodate more students for the Fall 2007 term.
Goal IV. Capacity To Serve
The Department of Athletics and Natatorium Services was notified by The United States Olympic Committee that they will be hosting two U.S. Paralympic international swim meets. The first will be the Spring Can-Am March 25-27, 2010 and it will also be a World Championship Team selection meet. The second will be the Can-Am Open, Dec. 8-10, 2011.
Goal
V. Organizational Communication
Dr. Leslie continues to actively participate in the Mayor’s P-16 Formation Committee, meeting regularly with the team of community members, leaders, and educators, to address the challenges facing the P-16 pipeline in San Antonio.
Dr. Leslie, Dr. Zaragoza, and Mr. Zárate met with the Kerrville ISD Superintendent, a Trustee and staff members to discuss partnership opportunities. The meeting was extremely successful and both organizations look forward to collaborating on future initiatives.
College Planning & Management magazine has recognized ACCD's Northeast Campus Renovation (otherwise known as the former Albertson's) for "Outstanding Architecture and Design in Education". It is also a "Project of Distinction" award winner. The project will be included in the June 2007 issue of College Planning & Management's Education Design Showcase. Congratulations to all involved in making this happen!
