Goal I. Access to Higher Education
The Department of Financial Services has disbursed $3,323,914 to 5,740 students who are receiving financial aid for the Summer Session I.
A team from the Alamo Community Colleges, including Drs. Zeigler, Reno, and Fabianke, attended the P-16 Regional Council Summit in Austin on June 20-21st. Titled “Creating a College-Going Culture and Well-Educated Communities,” the summit focused on the changing face of the Texas Labor Market and current student career interests. During the summit, the San Antonio attendees met and created a list of considerations for submission to the Mayor’s P-16 Formation Committee. Thanks to Trustees Zárate, Beitzel, and Conner for attending the summit. Elaine Mendoza was also in attendance and worked closely with the San Antonio contingent.
Goal II. Student Success
The Department of International Programs CASS (Central American States for Scholarship) students started the summer program with intensive seminars in various academic disciplines with master teachers from around the community. In addition, CASS students continue their service learning activities with the San Antonio Library Foundation (“Botero in the Community”) and the San Antonio Children's Museum. A midterm assessment report from Georgetown University program officers who visited the week before, praised our CASS program as a model for educator training for developing communities.

III. Workforce Development
Chancellor Leslie and Chairman Zárate headed an Alamo Community Colleges delegation that met with Kerrville ISD Superintendent, Dan Troxell to discuss the establishment of an Alamo Community Colleges – Hill Country Technology Center (HCTC) for 2007-08. Under the initial discussions, Kerrville ISD would upgrade a 10,000 sq/ft facility, including a joint use 350 seat auditorium, and provide a long term no cost lease (50+ Years) for ACCD to provide dual credit, community and continuing education, workforce and academic credit courses, as appropriate. Further details of the Kerrville partnership opportunity will be presented to the Board of Trustees during the July Board of Trustees meeting cycle.
The Alamo Community Colleges - National Automotive Manufacturers 21st Century Workforce Symposium (AMTEC) held June 6-8 received the highest evaluation rating of any of the national symposiums funded by NSF during 2007. A total of 63 participants enrolled in the symposium, 37 were from out of state and 16 represented automobile manufactures, including: Toyota-Indiana, Kentucky, San Antonio; Ford; General Motors; Lockheed Martin; NAM; Jackson Association of Manufacturers and Alabama CARCAM.
Goal IV. Capacity To Serve
David Gonzales and Erik Villalobos of the Acquisitions Department and Deborah Campos-Leon of the Facilities Department attended “The Texas Procurement Training 2007” seminar held June 14 at the UTSA 1604 campus. The course was conducted by speakers from the Texas Building and Procurement Commission and the Department of Information Resources. The information presented will provide the participants the most current information available about state contracts of various types and will allow us to better serve our customers.
The CIP Bond Citizen’s Oversight Committee met at NVC. The Committee members reported that they were pleased with the progress that has been made at all of the colleges.
On June 13, Kaludis Consulting of Washington, D.C. initiated a study which will include an Assessment of ACCD Information Technologies environment and will develop recommendations that ensure continued success in effectively supporting education, operations, and services. The assessment and recommendations are expected to be completed in August 2007. Another phase of the migration to a new district-wide email system was completed on schedule. The migration has replaced existing old hardware and software. The new systems, Microsoft Exchange is robust and has additional features.
Drs. Leslie, Claunch, Loston and Guzman attended a 3-day fundraising workshop sponsored by the Council for Resource Development. The workshop, designed for administrators, focused on fundraising ethics, investment and spending policies, planned giving and capital campaigns.

V. Organizational Communication
This week, the Department of Governmental and Public Relations submitted a one page profile on the Alamo Community Colleges to the “College-bound Hispanic Student Guide, Texas Edition”, for fall publication and organized a press conference scheduled for July 26 at 10 a.m. regarding a Texas Workforce Commission grant to the Alamo Community Colleges for NVC to train 136 Community Health Workers at the Westside Education and Training Center.
We have an increasing number of events and activities district-wide and are taking the opportunity to showcase such events on Time Warner Cable channel 98 and Grande cable channel 19. This section of the Chancellor’s Weekly Report will now provide a schedule of the programming for our regularly scheduled times of 12 – 2 pm on Saturday and 9 – 11 am on Sunday. Programming varies due to the timing of Board and committee meetings, groundbreaking ceremonies, etc. The programming for the coming weekend is as follows:
