Goal IV. Capacity to Serve
David Gonzales and Erik Villalobos of the Acquisitions Department and Deborah Campos-Leon of the Facilities Department attended “The Texas Procurement Training 2007” seminar held June 14 at the UTSA 1604 campus. The course was conducted by speakers from the Texas Building and Procurement Commission and the Department of Information Resources. The information presented will provide the participants the most current information available about state contracts of various types and will allow us to better serve our customers.

During the week of June 13 through June 19 DPS officers responded to or generated 376 calls for service and issued 118 Crime Prevention Reminders district wide .

The CIP Bond Citizen’s Oversight Committee met at Northwest Vista College. The Committee members were pleased with the progress that has been made at all of the colleges.

The Human Resources Compensation Unit completed compensation materials and schedules for the Compensation Study Presentation to the Board on June 19. The Training and Employee Development Unit conducted four Sexual Harassment Prevention Classes and presented class six of the Customer Service Certification. They also distributed the results of the 180º Leadership Feedback Survey to directors, presidents, vice chancellors and the chancellor.;

Another phase of the migration to a new district-wide email system was completed on schedule. The migration has replaced existing old hardware and software. The new system, Microsoft Exchange, is robust and has additional features.

The Titan/Banner office: prepared and submitted a PDQ for the new Banner Enterprise Systems Project Manager position for HR classification, approvals, posting and advertisement; and received 23 applicants for the Banner Project Coordinator position, which are currently under review for setup of interviews.

SCT Banner Converter Tool training was extended to a total of 10 participants from I/T Application Systems and one from the Internal Audit department. The tool will facilitate loading of our current Student and HR data into Banner system tables.

 

Goal I. Access To Higher Education
The Department of Financial Services has disbursed $3,323,914 to 5,740 students who are receiving financial aid for the Summer Session I.

The Department of Athletics and Natatorium Services hosted the Palo Alto IMX swim meet June 15 and 16. This is an upper level swim meet and 106 swimmers from San Antonio, Austin and Dallas participated in the two day meet.

The Department of Student and Community Program Development Southside Community Education Center staff provided outreach to students enrolled in the day and evening GED classes of the Bob and Jeanne Billa Adult Learning Center.

Goal II. Student Success
The Department of International Program CASS (Central American States for Scholarship) students started the summer program with intensive seminars in various academic disciplines with master teachers from around the community. In addition, CASS students continue their service learning activities with the San Antonio Library Foundation (“Botero in the Community”) and the San Antonio Children's Museum. A midterm assessment report from Georgetown University program officers who visited the week before, praised our CASS program as a model for educator training for developing communities.

The Department of Student and Community Program Development Eastside Community Education Center Off-Site Coordinator organized a meeting between ACCD, Texas Department of Assistive and Rehabilitative Services/DARS, Child Protective Services, and Baptist Child and Family Services representatives. The joint meeting included discussions on vocational assessments, aptitude, and vocational training placements for youth in foster care.

Goal III. Workforce Development
The Alamo Community Colleges - National Automotive Manufacturers 21st Century Workforce Symposium (AMTEC) held June 6-8 received the highest evaluation rating of any of the national symposiums funded by NSF during 2007. A total of 63 participants enrolled in the symposium, 37 were from out of state and 16 represented automobile manufactures, including: Toyota-Indiana, Kentucky, San Antonio; Ford; General Motors; Lockheed Martin; NAM; Jackson Association of Manufacturers and Alabama CARCAM.

Goal IV. Capacity to Serve
The SOAR team continues to refine the “Alamo Community Colleges’ Performance Measurement Management” report which provides data on the Chancellor’s Key Performance Priorities related to recruitment (student recruitment/capacity model), retention and completion (with alignment to Achieving the Dream targets), metrics, and remediation levels of First-Time-in-College students.

Goal V. Organizational Communication
The Department of Governmental and Public Relations: updated the ACCD website with six district wide stories and the production of the Chancellor’s weekly E-newsletter; submitted a one page profile on the Alamo Community Colleges to the, “College-bound Hispanic Student Guide, Texas Edition”, for fall publication; ordered media buys to promote twelve occupational technology programs that include all Alamo Community Colleges; and organized a press conference scheduled for July 26 at 10 a.m. regarding a Texas Workforce Commission grant to the Alamo Community Colleges for Northwest Vista College to train 136 Community Health Workers at the Westside Education and Training Center.
