Acquisitions & Administrative Services
David Gonzales attended a one-day conference in Austin co-sponsored by the Texas Department of Information Resources (DIR) and FileNet, an IBM company. Subject matter included Enterprise Content Management (ECM), Business Process Management (BPM), and Service Oriented Architectures (SOA). Gonzales is in charge of the purchasing team that handles technology purchases for the district.
Department of Public Safety
DPS went live on July 1st with its new Computer Aided Dispatch and Computerized Records Management Systems. This system will increase DPS’ capacity to serve by allowing officers to directly enter reports into the department’s records management database from any campus; reducing paper costs; allowing for quicker availability of reports upon request; and providing statistical measures of activity reported.
July 4-10, Department of Public Safety members responded to or generated 474 calls for service.
DPS officers issued 46 Crime Prevention Reminders district wide.
Facilities Operations and Construction Management
Renovation of the second floor of the Westside Community Education Center (WCEC) has started with a timeline of having the facilities ready for classes for the fall semester.
The Phase II Energy Cost Reductions Measures (ECRM) project kickoff meeting was held with personnel from Texas Engineering Experiment Station (TEES) Energy Systems Labs (ESL). The goal is to identify additional ways that ACCD can conserve energy and have more energy efficient facilities.
Titan/Banner Projects Office
Completed interviewing of applicants for Banner Project Coordinator and recommended a candidate.
SCT Banner on-site Student System Technical Overview training (3 days) is currently being provided to 9 participants from I/T applications and several representatives from the student functional team.

Goal I. Access To Higher Education
During the month of June, the Department of Student and Community Program Development Community Education Centers (provided a total of 6,612 services (financial aid, admissions, assessment, information, etc.) to 938 unduplicated individuals and prospective students. Of these students, 571 had no prior contact with the centers.
The Department of International Programs is hosting Ana María Rodriguez, a faculty member of the Instituto Tecnológico de Oaxaca in Mexico. She is meeting with faculty and students interested in our study abroad program. On Monday, she met with Miguel Muñoz (NVC) and Cynthia Cortez (SPC) to discuss details for next year’s study abroad program.
The Department of Institutional Advancement has six sponsors with a total of $12,000 in underwriting support for the Senator Frank Madla, Jr. Memorial Scholarship Fund event scheduled for the evening of October 17, 2007 (efforts are ongoing); photos for silent & live auction are being reprinted & framed; Save the Date Card were finalized and will be mailed early next week to nearly 1,000 potential guests; Senator Carlos Uresti contact in process.
Goal II. Student Support
The Student Leadership Institute continues to recruit for FY 07-08 SLI class. A mail out was sent to 1,500 eligible students.
The Department of Institutional Advancement is working to ensure awarding of fall semester 2007 scholarships. Reports to donors reflecting scholarships awarded, along with requests for renewed and increased funding, will continue to be a major ongoing focus. Tino & Millie Duran have committed $5,000 from the La Prensa Foundation to underwrite the Student of the Month recognition awards for Aug. 2007–July 2008.
Goal III. Workforce Development
The Westside Education and Training Center served 37 EISD students in dual credit classes this summer. To date, the Westside Education and Training Center has served 1,163 students and the Central Texas Technology Center has served 1,173 students.
The Department of Economic and Workforce Development hosted a workshop on the internal program review process for the Alamo Community Colleges with presenter, Mr. Larry Markey, Systems Director of Workforce Development & Acting Resource Development Director of Houston Community College.
Vice Chancellor Federico Zaragoza met with the CPS and Pearl Brewery representatives to discuss opportunities for the Alamo Community Colleges to be the education provider for the Pearl Brewery Advanced Energy Program.
Goal IV. Capacity to Serve
The SOAR team provided unduplicated and duplicated headcount and contact hour projections to the Vice-Chancellor of Administration and prepared a formula for Achieving Target Headcounts based on different retention percentages.
The Department of Athletics and Natatorium Services hosted the Alamo Area Summer Swim League all star meet on July 3. 485 swimmers from 25 local summer swim teams attended. The majority was Bexar County residents, and we heard numerous positive comments about the bond and our new Palo Alto College construction.
Goal V. Organizational Communication
The Department of Communications has carried out the workforce education registration campaign in print publications, highlighting specific workforce education programs at each college and at the Central Texas Technology Center. The print ads will appear in the Westside Sun, Helotes Echo, San Antonio Business Journal, African-American Reflections, the Informer, Southside Reporter, Seguin Daily News, New Braunfels Herald-Zeitung, Canyon Lake Times Guardian and Advisor.
Chancellor Bruce Leslie and Trustees Roberto Zarate, Charles Conner, and Dr. Gene Sprague met with the editorial board of the San Antonio Express-News regarding Governor’s Perry veto of $12 million for employee health insurance benefits. The meeting resulted in an editorial entitled, “Cuts in Community College Budgets Hit the Neediest”. |
