Department of Public Safety
During the week of July 11-17, Department of Public Safety members responded to or generated 484 calls for service and issued 56 Crime Prevention Reminders district wide as part of our crime prevention efforts.
Employee Services
The Employment Unit attended the Non–Commissioned Officers Association Job Fair Wednesday, July 11th. It was attended by 675 applicants and 72 employers. We provided information about current district vacancies as well as information on the application process via PeopleLink. We also answered questions about the programs offered at our colleges.
The Benefits Unit completed the Summer Enrollment mail out to 2,510 employees; completed Life/LTD Reconciliation Report; held New Hire Orientation with 3 attendees.
The Training and Employee Development Unit conducted seven Sexual Harassment Prevention Classes for 38 employees.
The Records and Information Systems Unit started developing the New Salary Structure Tables for HRS System. Expected completion date is August 31, 2007; started the once-a-year HRS file maintenance in preparation of FY08 rollover; expected to be completed before September 1, 2007.
Facilities Operations and Construction Management
Palo Alto College CIP Veterinary Technology Building roof is in place.
San Antonio College CIP Parking Garage structure has been constructed up to the third level.
Titan/Banner Projects Office
Erlinda Ybarra, from Palo Alto College, moved to the Project Office as the Banner Project Coordinator.

Goal I. Access To Higher Education
The Department of International Program’s TIES (Training, Internships, Exchanges and Scholarships) program is coming to an end. The partnership is planning a final meeting on July 30-31 in Cuernavaca, Mexico. In addition to the members of the consortium, special invited guests include Dr. Arturo Nava Jaimes, head of the Universidades Tecnológicas at the Secretary of Public Education; Dr. Rodolfo Tuirán, Undersecretary of Public Education; and Nora Pinzón, USAID-Mexico.
Jesse and Sue Oppenheimer gave the ACCD Foundation a new $15,000 gift for Oppenheimer Scholarships; Received $100,000 from the Lumina Foundation for the third year of the four-year grant for the Achieving the Dream Initiative.
The Department of Student Financial Services has served 1,712 students and disbursed $901,074 for the Summer II session; totals for summer I and II are 7,432 students and $4,612,499 in disbursed funds.
Goal II. Student Support
The Department of Institutional Advancement is continuing efforts to ensure awarding of Fall Semester 2007 scholarship; reports to donors reflecting scholarships awarded, along with requests for renewed and increased funding, continue to be a major ongoing focus.
Goal III. Workforce Development
The Department of Economic and Workforce Development was awarded $474,000 for the Texas Workforce Commission’s TIER Robotics project.
To date, the Westside Education and Training Center has served 1,214 students and the Central Texas Technology Center has served 1,174 students.
Goal IV. Capacity to Serve
The Department of Institutional Advancement visited with Kathleen Guy, VP of Institutional Advancement at Northwestern Michigan College, and has arranged for a meeting on August 6 & 7 to review model approaches to engaging and supporting chancellor and presidents in fundraising.
Goal V. Organizational Communication
Mr. Denny Ryther, District Athletic Director/Natatorium Manager was a guest of Brazil for the Pan American Games representing USA Swimming. He was a referee for the Marathon Swimming (10K) events. The USA won the gold medal in the women’s event and a gold and silver medal in the men’s event. These were the first events of the Games.
The Department of Governmental and Public Relations assisted in the coordination of the 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. WOAI-TV newscasts, broadcast entirely from Northwest Vista College on Friday, July 13. The 5 p.m. newscast was seen in 30,000 households by 43,000 people and the 6 p.m. newscast was seen in 32,000 households by 49,000 people. The Fall advertising campaign is underway, with 984 television spots running in ten television stations and 1,673 radio spots running in ten radio stations. The ad campaign will run through August 19. Fall classes start August 27; and the phone bank has made 2,800 calls during the week to students to encourage them to register for Summer II classes. Summer II census date total enrollment is 7,393. Summer II enrollment by college is: San Antonio-4,004; St. Philip’s- 1,393; Palo Alto-1,173; Northwest Vista-823. |
