I. Access to Higher Education
The Department of Student and Community Programs Community Education Centers provided assessment tests and registration assistance to students at South San HS, Southside HS, East Central HS, Jefferson HS, Edison HS, and Edgewood Fine Arts Academy as part of the College Connections initiative.

Students from the Department of Student and Community Programs Student Leadership Institute (SLI) visited the state capital and met with state legislators in Austin on March 6th.The SLI students also provided logistical support at the International Women’s Conference on March 8th.

III. Workforce Development
Leo Zuniga and Dr. Federico Zaragoza prepared five federal congressional line item appropriation requests for the following Alamo Community College’s programs: (1) Health Care Worker Assistance Center, submitted to Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison; (2) Fire and Safety Building Program (SAC) submitted to Congressman Charlie Gonzalez; (3) Small Business Incubator Services (all) submitted to Congressman Henry Cuellar; (4) Air Traffic Controller (PAC), submitted to Congressman Ciro Rodriguez; and (5) Advanced Energy Park (SPC), submitted to Congressman Lamar Smith.15, 2007.

IV. Capacity to Serve
The Department of Athletics and Natatorium Services, a joint initiative with the City of San Antonio, hosted the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics National Swimming and Diving Championships.
The Department of Student Financial Services Processing Center team moved from the Houston Street facility to the NEC 7990 Pat Booker Rd location last week.
On March 4-7, 2006, the chancellor, four Board members (Zárate, Beitzel, McClendon, and Conner), the District’s Financial Advisor, Dr. Chuck Hall, and the district treasurer traveled to New York City to participate in the issuance of debt support for capital improvements program
Ms. Jacquelyn Kyle, district director of ACCD Titan/Banner projects, started March 1, 2007. She will report to the Vice Chancellor for Administration and serve as a member of the Chancellor’s Cabinet.

V. Organizational Communication
The Department of Governmental and Public Relations released the first issue of the weekly E-newsletter, Alamo Community Colleges Weekly News.
Save the Date – April 19, 2007. Leo Zuniga is working with event coordinators to plan an Alamo Community Colleges' Construction Project Exposition to be held at the Depot in Sunset Station. The purpose of this community event is to invite the public to view our bond construction projects. Expected attendance: 300. More information to follow soon.
As a reminder, our Department of Governmental and Public Relations continuously updates the photo gallery and calendar of events on our web page. This week, the photo gallery featured the welcome reception for Dr. Adena Loston and the College Connection press conference.
Save the Date – March 31, 2007 is Alamo Community Colleges Day at the Rampage hockey game. The promotion will provide an opportunity for table displays by all our colleges, participation in promotional contests, college musical/entertainment groups, and television, radio and print promotion. Tickets will be distributed to students at the colleges.
