Northeast Lakeview College hosted a community event on March 2nd attended by more than 100 employees, college building partners and involved community citizens.

In recognition of Women’s History Month, Northeast Lakeview College featured an event titled “Teaching with Joy: A Presentation by Authors Mimi Duvall and Sharon
Shelton-Colangelo” – both instructors at Northwest Vista College on March 5th. Facilitated by the Communications Department at Northeast Lakeview College, the presentation included a discussion by the two authors of their book "Teaching with Joy: Educational Practices for the 21st Century" This edited collection addresses the growing need for ideas and methods conducive to holistic educational practices and aims to encourage more personal growth in students.

Dr. Cindy Griffith, Dean of Workforce Development and Continuing Education, and Dr. Beth Lewis, Vice-President of Academic Affairs, recently traveled to Alvin Community College to visit with allied health program administrators and faculty. Two of the Alvin programs are currently being investigated by Northeast Lakeview College to determine their feasibility for future development and implementation. Since Alvin is currently constructing a new allied health building, the visit provided opportunities for further investigation of laboratory and equipment requirements

III. Workforce Development
This spring, Northwest Vista College partnered with the Southwest Research Institute (SWRI) to develop a training program for the company’s technicians.
The engineering technology program was designed to increase the technicians’ engineering knowledge and offer them classes that can be applied to a two-year or four-year engineering degree.
Classes for this program began in January 2007 at the Southwest Research Institute; required lab courses will be taken at Northwest Vista College.
In fall 2007, Northwest Vista College will launch the clinical research coordinator associate of applied science (AAS) degree program, the first of its kind in the state of Texas. There is currently an annual demand for over 100 new clinical research coordinators and site data managers.

I. Access to Higher Education
PAC’s Disability Support Services hosted a Disability Awareness Day entitled “Celebrate Diversity” in the Student Center, March 7. The event was designed to raise awareness among students regarding services available on campus and in the surrounding community.

PAC recognized approximately 625 students during a Scholarship Ceremony held on Campus, March 7. Students were presented with a Certificate in recognition of scholarships received during the Fall 2006 and Spring 2007 semesters

PAC hosted a Basketball Awards Banquet for the South Texas Club Sports League for 2006-2007. More than 300 athletes, students and coaches from colleges and universities in San Antonio and the regional community attended the event.

SAISD, Hilton Palacio del Rio and Disney Corp. were on the St. Philip’s College campus recruiting for non-teaching positions. Ten new students have been recruited by Disney Corp. for fall 2007 internships; Disney’s goal is to have 17 SPC students in this program.

Representatives from SPC met with Toyota to discuss the development of a Tool and Die track in the Manufacturing program to include opportunities for the Manufacturing Academy students at the Toyota plant.
On March 5, Haydar Sahin took his Network Administration class on a field trip to a local Rackspace data center. Rackspace, a world leader in managed, dedicated web hosting solutions, has employed several of SPC networking graduates.

The Web Site committee reached a consensus on the best way to convey information to and to assist faculty and staff with developing departmental sites on the new St. Philip’s College web site, which will launch on May 21.
This past week, the Instructional Innovation Center (IIC)
• Hosted 26 faculty and staff members in the IIC open development lab
• Offered two workshops
• Staff provided extended one-on-one consultations for faculty and staff members

The Enrollment Management and Counseling offices are organizing a campus tour for 916 Tech Prep high school seniors.

Six students received scholarships for their winning entries in the Black History Month Essay Competition. At the African American Read-in, the students joined faculty and staff in reading the poetry of famous poets commemorating the bombing of the Sixteenth Street Baptist Church in Birmingham, Alabama, on September 15, 1963.

The San Antonio College Continuing Education Training Network has partnered with Development Dimensions (DDI) to make its world-class leadership, workforce and customer service training programs available to local companies.

IV. Capacity to Serve
The Instructional Technologies & Innovation Center provided training sessions for faculty and staff in inputting online grades, PDA training, Tegrity Streaming Video, Macromedia Dreamweaver Web Site Introduction and Adobe Photoshop, among other classes.

San Antonio College celebrated Women’s History Week March 6-9, with activities on the theme “Popular Representations of Real Women” as they appear in myth, self-creation, music, film, literature, biography, memoir, visual arts and television.
