Goal IV. Capacity to Serve
Acquisitions & Administrative Services
As part of process improvement initiatives, Acquisitions has completed a change in the format that solicitations are made available on our web-site. The change allows bidders to download a more “user-friendly” document and, a new “read-only” version is available for review by interested parties without them having to register and download the document.

Year End Banner/Unit Activity: Our transaction activity for the current reporting period included 1,883 requisitions received and 1,921 purchase orders processed, including 223 purchase orders on grant funded accounts in the amount of $626,156.08. Total purchase order dollar activity for the current period is $14,385,710.99 which is analyzed as follows:

SMWBE expenditures to sub-contractors in the CIP Construction category (item no. 1.A) are being tracked and reported by the District Facilities Department. Of the amounts shown in items 1.B, 1.C and 1.D, $4,087,161.87 was awarded to SMWBE vendors/contractors which equals a participation rate of 37.1% for the current reporting period. SMWBE activity is further analyzed as follows:

Department of Public Safety
During the week of July 22-28, Department of Public Safety members responded to or generated 476 calls for service and issued 51 Crime Prevention Reminders district wide.

Employee Services
All managers attended the IT Services Review with Kaludis Consulting.
Benefits Unit held six Summer Enrollment meetings, one at each college and at Southwest Campus. Approximately 235 total employees attended; completed CUPA Annual Benefits Survey; processed/approved 156 ETAP applications.
The Training and Employee Development Unit conducted four Sexual Harassment Prevention Classes for 88 employees; onducted class six of the Customer Service Certification Program at SAC attended by 10 employees.
The Records and Information Systems Unit
completed FY 08 salary structure for staff and administrators which is currently in test mode with IT programmers.

Facilities Operations and Construction Management
Portions of the San Antonio College Capital Improvement Program Parking Garage structure have been constructed up to the fifth (top) level.

Information Technologies
Kaludis Consulting was back on site this week conducting focus sessions with a number of specific groups as they conducted the IT Assessment Study. These included meetings with Staff Council, the Continuity Committee, E-Learning Team, the IT Planning Council, and a number of other IT collaborative teams.

Initial pre-planning meetings were held this week as part of the VoIP CIP project. The contractor, Aeon Technologies, was included. Aeon Technologies will conduct a readiness assessment and will lead activities associated with project planning. The VoIP project will replace the current ACCD telephone system with cutting edge technology.

Titan/Banner Projects Office
The Banner Project Stakeholders met last week, July 26th and agreed that communication and commitment across ACCD are critical keys to the project’s success. They will be actively engaging and championing both throughout the implementation project. Stakeholders also agreed to meet on the last Thursday of each month and more frequently if project activities warrant

 

Goal I. Access To Higher Education
Dr. Federico Zaragoza, Vice Chancellor of Economic and Workforce Development; Dr. Abel Navarro, Director of the Alamo Quality Institute; and Mark Hagen, Coordinator of International Programs, were presenters at the annual conference for TIES International Maquiladora and Advanced Manufacturing Consortium (Training, Exchanges, Internships and Scholarships). The conference took place in Cuernacava, Mexico, on July 30 and 31. Dr. Arturo Nava Jaimes, coordinator for Universidades Tecnológicas at Mexico’s Secretary of Public Education office, and Nora Pinzón, manager of educational programs at USAID/Mexico, also attended the meeting.

The Department of Institutional Advancement held the King William Association Scholarship Awards ceremony the evening of August 1st in the Killen Center to recognize seven scholarship recipients for the upcoming fall semester.

The Department of Financial Services has awarded for 2007-2008 Pell Grants a total of $50,944,168: SAC-6,560 students; SPC-3,509 students; PAC-3,120 students and NVC-2,294 students.

Goal II. Student Support
The Department of Institutional Advancement’s Carolyn Kelley has been working extensively on trying to ensure scholarships are awarded by the Student Financial Services offices in a timely and effective manner and report back to the Office of Institutional Advancement so that donors can be apprised. This process has been addressed in PIP “Gift Usage & Reporting Process” along with recommendations.

Goal III. Workforce Development
Dr. Bruce Leslie and Chairman Roberto Zarate were awarded $359,495 by Texas Workforce Commissioner, Diane Rath, on behalf of the Westside Education and Training Center, to train 136 community health workers.

Dr. Federico Zaragoza was the commencement speaker for the Greater San Antonio GED graduation ceremony held at the Municipal Auditorium on July 21, 2007. Approximately 300 persons attended the ceremony.

To date, the Westside Education and Training Center has served 1,243 students and the Central Texas Technology Center has served 1,174 students.

Goal IV. Capacity to Serve
The Department of Institutional Advancement’s Joan Barborak secured a list of major financial institutions and names for future Committee on Directors discussion; and also produced list of donors who have given to us for at least five years on a continuous basis at the $1,000 or more level per year to review as potential Foundation Board members.

Goal V. Organizational Communication
The Department of Athletics and Natatorium Services hosted the Southern Sectional Swim Meet for USA Swimming July 25-28, 2007; 701 swimmers from Texas and Louisiana participated in the meet.

The Department of Grants and Contracts completed the Consolidated Grants Report for the period ending August 1st which indicated over $63 million in grant funding received by Alamo Community Colleges.

The Department of Governmental and Public Relations assisted in coordinating two press conferences. One press conference was to announce a $359,495 Texas Workforce Commission grant to train 136 health care workers. Three television stations and print media covered this event. The second press conference was to announce the approval status of the ADN (Associate Nursing Degree) program at St Philip’s College. This press conference was covered by five television stations, two radio stations and four print media outlets. KBBT radio station (“The Beat” 98.5 FM) live radio remotes were scheduled at St. Philip’s College, Palo Alto College and San Antonio College to promote registration.
