Acquisitions & Administrative Services
• Elizabeth Alvarado, Margie Regalado and Dwight Gillespie completed a training program on Survey Point software offered by Corina Prieto of District IT. Knowledge of this web-based software application will facilitate the conduct of Acquisitions’ process improvement projects (PIP).
Department of Public Safety
• During the week of August 1-7, Department of Public Safety members responded to or generated 521 calls for service and DPS officers issued 50 Crime Prevention Reminders.
• DPS officers participated in National Night Out festivities at St. Philip's College along with the San Antonio Police Department, Bexar County Sheriff’s Department, San Antonio Park Police and many community groups.
Facilities Operations and Construction Management
• Student Outcomes Assessments and Research, Student Leadership Institute and Student and Community Program Development departments have moved from 811 West Houston Street to 7990 Pat Booker Road.
• Evacuation plans have been posted in all ACCD buildings. The locations of the evacuation plans have been coordinated with the Office of Environmental Health, Safety and Risk Management.

Goal I. Access To Higher Education
During the month of July 2007, the Community Education Centers (CECs) provided a total of 2,668 services (financial aid, admissions, assessment, information, etc.) to 1,085 unduplicated individuals and prospective students. Of these students, 400 had no prior contact with the centers.
The Department of International Programs’ CASS (Central American States for Scholarship) teachers completed a series of intensive seminar courses that facilitate the creation of enriched language environments in classrooms, school and community using available resources in their rural communities. This included creating libraries and hand-made reading materials using community history and culture, natural and agricultural resources, etc. They are preparing impact plans for community literacy upon return to their home communities.
Goal II. Student Support
SPC Financial Aid staff hosted the Scholar’s Reception for incoming freshman, attended by 77 Scholar’s and family members.
Goal III. Workforce Development
To date, the Westside Education and Training Center has enrolled 1,281 students and the Central Texas Technology Center has enrolled 1,174 students.
The Kerrville ISD, San Antonio College, and Northwest Vista College have begun testing students for the initial dual credit technical program to be offered in preparation for a proposed ACC - Hill Country Technology Center. The proposed courses for the fall 2007 semester are (SAC) dual credit/CE - building trades, (SAC) dual credit - medical terminology, (NVC) dual credit/CE – web design. Courses are scheduled to begin fall semester 2007 with enrollments of approximately 110 students.
Goal IV. Capacity to Serve
The SOAR team completed the Space Capacity Analysis for the Alamo Community Colleges, submitted a KPIs Status Report to Chancellor, and assisted Inventory Control with their Customer Survey.
Goal V. Organizational Communication
The Department of Governmental and Public Relations
• Completed telephone calls to 21,300 students reminding them to pay their tuition and fees by the August 3 deadline; started a second round of calls to 7,700 students who were dropped, as a result of not meeting the payment deadline, and encouraging them to re-register for the fall semester
• Implemented a print campaign to promote fall registration, registration in selected occupational training programs, and registration at the Central Texas Technology Center.
• Corresponded with Congressman Charlie Gonzalez staff in anticipation of the round table discussion held between Congressmen Gonzalez and Ruben Hinojosa and local education leaders to discuss federal education priorities. Congressmen Hinojosa is Chairman of the House Education and Workforce Committee’s Subcommittee on Higher Education, Lifelong Learning, and Competitiveness. Dr. Federico Zaragoza commendably represented the Alamo Community Colleges at this roundtable discussion. The expressed need for new facilities to accommodate more students may generate a news story by Melissa Ludwig of the Express-News who was present at the meeting. |
