| Goal I. Access To Higher Education
On Friday, August 10, 2007, Northeast Lakeview College hosted a meeting to generate support for the Watts Lower Valley School Restoration Project. The Watts Lower Valley School is an 1877 rural schoolhouse which will be moved onto the campus of Northeast Lakeview College and restored as a museum. Over 50 Lower Valley School alumni, NLC Citizens’ Advisory Committees members, members of area historical organizations, Schertz-Cibolo-Universal City ISD personnel, financial and construction industry representatives, and others attended the meeting. Attendees expressed interest in the restoration of the rural schoolhouse and generated ideas for building support to fund the project.
Goal II. Student Support
NLC, as a part of the Achieving the Dream FTIC Initiative, hosted a training seminar for student development faculty with author Amy Baldwin on Friday, August 10, 2007. . Baldwin’s textbook, The Community College Experience, has been adopted by Northeast Lakeview College, San Antonio College and St. Philip’s College for the SDEV 0370 course. The SDEV 0370 course is designed for students requiring developmental classes in two or more of the core areas of Reading, English and Math. Instructors from NVC, SPC and NLC attended the half-day training where Baldwin focused on techniques and strategies to best utilize the text. Baldwin is employed with Pulaski Technical College in Little Rock, AR., an "Achieving the Dream" College.
Goal IV. Capacity to Serve
On Wednesday, August 8, NLC President, Dr. Eric Reno presented the latest NLC new construction architectural renderings to the Universal City City Council. Dr. Reno outlined the entire construction project, focusing on buildings scheduled to open Fall 2008 and opportunities for community partnerships.
On August 8, 2007, Ashlee Vinyard, Congressman Lamar Smith’s Washington D.C. Office Legislative Assistant, visited and toured both the 8300 Pat Booker Northeast Lakeview College location and the construction site of the permanent NLC campus. Vinyard was briefed on current and planned programs at NLC by Drs. Reno and Trevino.

Goal IV. Capacity To Serve
NVC students, faculty, staff and visitors will benefit from 200 additional parking spaces that were recently completed on the northern side of the current modular buildings. This is the first bond-funded project to be completed and will eventually serve both Juniper Hall and Redbud Learning Center which are scheduled for completion by August of 2008.
Goal V. Organizational Communication
On August 17, NVC’s Academy for Lifelong Learning hosted an open house which highlighted the program’s services to seniors. The purpose of the open house was to create community awareness, establish new membership, and expand partnerships with community and business organizations. The purpose of the Academy of Lifelong Learning is to offer learning opportunities for individuals seeking intellectual development, cultural stimulation, personal growth, and social interaction.

Goal I. Access To Higher Education
PAC is recruiting students for the “Palo Alto Weekend College Program,” which begins Sept. 8. The program allows for the completion of an Associate of Arts or Science degree in three years completely on weekends and via the Internet, and has been specifically designed for working adults juggling the demands of career and family.
Goal II. Student Support
PAC’s PassKey Program is making preparations to host a Fall Orientation Aug. 21. Students will be introduced to services such as an Individual Plan for Success, grant information, newsletters and assessment, with the overall goal of fostering a climate of support and student academic achievement that will lead to graduation and transfer.
Goal III. Workforce Development
San Antonio Express-News business reporter Adolfo Pesquera and a photographer visited the PAC campus on August 15 to interview Larry Jackson, director of Corporate and Community Education, and Tod Bruning, information technology program manager, for a story on the “Access to Technology” partnership with the San Antonio Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.
Goal IV. Capacity To Serve
PAC’s Office of Student Activities completed its move to a new location adjacent to the Student Center cafeteria, making it more accessible and in full view of students. The Student Activities Office serves as a resource for students in leadership development and program planning. Staff members have been busying planning and implementing events and programs for the upcoming fall semester to draw diverse groups of students together to capture the total college experience.
Goal V. Organizational Communication
PAC’s cafeteria, managed by Sue Valle of Custom Foods, received a “Perfect” score during its recent inspection by the San Antonio Metro Health District. During the summer sessions, PAC’s cafeteria served thousands of meals to students, faculty, and staff, and to children attending various summer programs throughout the campus.

Goal I. Access To Higher Education
President Dr. Adena Williams Loston attended a freshmen orientation and leadership camp at Sam Houston High School called Lil’ Hurricane Camp.
Dr. Loston shared personal stories with dozens of students about overcoming challenges to earn an education. She inspired the students to stay in high school and ultimately enroll at St. Philip’s College upon graduation.
SPC’s coordinator of the Basic Skills Academy at the Southwest Campus met with the superintendent of the Christian Academy of San Antonio, Yolanda Molina, to develop a plan to enroll students in the St. Philip’s College-Southwest Campus dual credit classes for the fall 2007 semester.
Goal II. Student Support
Educational Support Services staff created a database specifically designed for tracking students with disabilities. This database will allow staff to analyze students’ progress using multiple variables.
Goal III. Workforce Development
The Career Services coordinator met with the education coordinator of the Association of Builders and Contractors to discuss short term training for their new employees as well as academic opportunities for their journeymen.

The Registration Support Team has worked with staff throughout the college to coordinate registration assistance for the upcoming fall semester. This included development of a Registration Team Handbook. Training for staff volunteers was also provided.
Goal V. Organizational Communication
The Community and Public Relations Office launched an advertising effort through regional and community newspapers and churches. The goal is to inform underserved student populations about SPC’s certificate and degree programs and to encourage them to enroll at the College.
The Information Technology Department hosted a meeting of the technology leaders from the ACCD colleges and the district. The purpose of the meeting was to inform technology leaders about the numerous on-going projects throughout the Alamo Community Colleges. Goal I. Access To Higher Education
San Antonio College hosted the Early Childhood Studies Quality Investment Grant Recipient Celebration on August 14 to recognize the 41 students who completed the first series of professional development courses for early childhood teachers. This program is a partnership with the SAC Early Childhood Studies Department, Continuing Education Division, the City of San Antonio’s Office of Community Initiatives (which provided a $450,000 grant), Positive Beginnings, Family Service Association, UTSA, and KLRN-TV.

The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools’ Commission on Colleges recently notified President Robert Zeigler that San Antonio College is in compliance with SACS standards and requires no follow-up to its re-affirmation. Regarding their June 2007 meeting, Dr. Belle S. Wheelan, President of the Commission on Colleges, said, the commission “reviewed the institution’s First Monitoring Report following reaffirmation. No additional report was requested. We appreciate your continued support of the activities of the Commission on Colleges.”
Goal V. Organizational Communication
San Antonio College hosted a “CIP Expo” for the community at the Visual Arts & Technology Center on August 15 at 5:30 p.m. President Robert E. Zeigler gave a presentation with a historic overview of the college and its state and national leadership in granting associate’s degrees, the context of the state’s "Closing the Gaps" goals and the progress on the three major CIP projects at the college. These include the Parking Garage (due for completion in January), the Nursing/Allied Health Complex and the Academic Building (both scheduled for completion by the fall 2008). Guests included members of the ACCD Board of Trustees, ACCD CIP Advisory Committee, members of the medical community, neighborhood organizations, SAC faculty, staff and administrators and the general public. To further extend the message, the media were also invited to cover this event, and KABB-TV, North San Antonio Times, and La Prensa reporters were there.
