Irma M. Sanchez, Palo Alto College Assistant Professor Learning Resources, who recently retired, was honored with the title of Assistant Professor Emeritus at the August board meeting. Sanchez was lauded for more than 19 years of dedicated service during which she led the Learning Resources faculty toward the development of a "teaching library" and madeunstinting contributions toward student success. Sanchez has also been the recipient of a NISOD award for teaching innovation, the Skinner's Presidents' award for excellence in instruction and the Faculty Senate Teaching Excellence Award for innovation and creativity.

NVC faculty members were recognized with awards at the colleges' convocation. Excellence in Teaching Awards were presented to faculty members Nick Delillo, Geology, Ron Wojnar, Multimedia and Denise Tolan, English. Tolan was also nominated for the Piper Teaching Award. Additional awards were given for ideas that have enhanced the colleges' ability to serve students. Instructor Kevin Kelly was recognized for his commitment to integrating service learning into his macroeconomics classes, partnering with Junior Achievement of South Texas (JAST) and local schools to teach economics and basic financial literacy. This initiative also integrates ASK Service Learning and Cooperative Learning. |
