Faculty Spotlight

Karen Mahaffy, chair of the Fine and Performing Arts/Speech Communication department at Palo Alto College, who also teaches digital art there, has some of her work displayed in an exhibit entitled "Still Life in New Time," on view through September 16 in the Arts Building of UTSA's Loop 1604 campus. She was recently featured in articles in both the Express-News publication 210SA and an article in the San Antonio Current.

 

PAC instructors Honey Kirk and Diane Lerma attended a Mathematics Across the Community College Curriculum (MAC3) Traveling Workshop Facilitators’ Training in Leavenworth, Washington. They were selected to develop guidelines for planning and conducting traveling workshops for the American Mathematical Association of Two-Year Colleges.
Two NVC faculty members have been selected to participate in the English Language Fellows Program. One is scheduled to teach in Belarus, the other in Mongolia. Final preparations are being made for their assignments.
 

PAC Instructor of Music Juan Ortiz is taking a group of mariachi students from area high schools, colleges and universities (including Palo Alto) to compete at the “El Encuentro del Mariachi” in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico. The group was invited to represent the United States and left for Mexico August 31. They will return September 10.
